Test launching the Neptune V Super Heavy Launch Vehicle from the Cape.

It's an upgraded version of the Neptune IV (6 vs 8 boosters) carrying ~500 tons into orbit.

A bit of wind...

Gravity Turn

Solid boosters almost done...

Moment of truth...

Success! There is much cheering in the Kontrol Center.

Orbit achieved

Test payload...along with another 100 tons of space junk...in orbit. Total succes...wait, are two of the solar panels installed crooked. DAMMIT JEB!

Gotta love Kerbal. I can't wait for 1.1 and Unity.

I'm so tempted with the RSS mod but everytime I look the list of prerequisites is a mile long. And then half the standard stuff doesn't work anymore or at least not to scale.

I haven't played this since before 1.0. I'm assuming those planet textures are modded and therefore not stock?

Unless I'm mistaken it's the Real Solar System mod, meaning not just textures... changes size of planets, changes orbits, changes required Delta-V to achieve orbit...

Awesome pictures!

Yeah I like those textures. I've used an atmosphere mod before which was great but to get everything going is a bit of a cycle.

BTW what do you mean by Unity thing and 1.1?

Yeah, its with Real Solar System and the RVE atmosphere mod. RSS itself doesn't require any other mods, but the Realism Overhaul mod that it recommends does. I didn't want to deal with the increased complexity, so I went another route and modified the rocket engines efficiencies to real world values. The delta V values required for getting around are accurate enough that you can use deltaV maps like the one below to design spacecraft. The stages of the rocket I posted above was designed using the delta-V values from the Saturn.

I also did the 64bit work around for Windows so I could have more than 4GBs of mods.

Also, testing the Gabriel Spacecraft. It's designed to be a low-budget lifeboat in case something happens all those other fancy launch vehicles and it's the only ride in town. In other words, it's an American Soyuz. Was also seeing how well Nvidia Shadowplay works.

I tried using RSS by just "scaling" parts but that didn't come out too well...

Spaceplane! Mainly to answer the question "what would the space shuttle look like if it was just a 6 person space taxi?"
