Thank goodness I never had an Allegro, nearly bought one once but changed my mind at the last moment and bought a Sierra 1600 GLS which was an excellent car. I did have an Austin Maxi 1750 and it was quite good for what it was, it was really good in the snow which living in the far north of Scotland was a big plus!

The Sierra was hopeless in the snow until I put a heavy concrete beam in the boot and then it was ok.

Worst, an AMC something or other that I bought for $400 in college.

Best, Tie between my 2010 370z (which I gave to my son), and 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4, which I will keep until the wheels fall off.

Worst - I was in the Army in Ft Polk and bought a used Ford Capri in 1988. It ran fine for about 20 miles after I bought it, then it burned more oil than gas.

Best - at the end of 2003 I bought a brand new Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck. It is the most basic model and is still running great today. It has about 60,000 miles on it and only had one major problem that the Toyota mechanics blamed on bad fuel. Other than that I had the brakes renewed a year ago and some new tires bought. All in all a great value.

The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

Best car is my 1993 Dodge Stealth. Still looks and runs like new, with 170,000 miles on it.
Very little work, just brake pads, and oil changes. Nothing breaks.

Worst car was a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Nothing but trouble. Didn't last long.

Oh god Chucky; I had erased the traumatic memory of my wife's Metro from my mind.
Other sheds were a Montego with it's highly bulnerable rear facing child seats, and a Ford Maverick which was as hopeless on road as off.

I really wanted a Montego! I used to drool over them, the Austin Princess too. They were all out of my reach at the time, maybe that was a good thing.I did love my Avenger though.I had a 1500 DL but I almost died with envy when my mate's mum bought an Avenger Tiger.

I see the Avenger was available over the pond as a Plymouth Cricket, any of you older guys remember them?

Worst - 2000 Izuzu Rodeo. Would start every time you cranked it, it was tremendously reliable in that respect, but the air conditioning compressor had to be replaced three times. I think they were made of papier-mch. It also had this "disappearing oil" trick (that I found out about on Izuzu users forums) in that it would be running fine and suddenly burn a massive amount of oil. We had it paid off on a February, tuned up in a March, and the motor literally seized up on my wife as she was pulling into our driveway that April.

1976 Ford Granada Ghia - marketed as a competitor to the Mercedes Benz 300 series of the same year. Benz had nothing to worry about. A/C compressor violently seized up on me at stoplight, shower of smoke and sparks from under the hood. Cut the belt and got it home. Didn't have brakes when I first got it, didn't really have them even after they were replaced, it was such a heavy car. 302-c.i. V8 was faster than anything else in my high school parking lot. When it ran. Sold it to a buddy who was a stoner for exactly what my Dad paid for it. Don't do drugs, kids.

Best - 1999 Ford Ranger XLT X-cab. I loved this truck. Last vehicle I ever owned as a bachelor. Had a toolbox painted to match the color, a standard transmission and a 6-cyl engine instead of the standard four-bangers that were always in Rangers. Traded it in on the aforementioned Rodeo so I could haul around a newborn. You can imagine my disappointment.

Our current 2007 F-150 STX X-cab is also pretty nice. Has ran unbelievably smoothly and reliably until earlier this year when the tranny mysteriously shelled out on us. Wife was livid because it's "her" truck. She babies this thing, and it had just under 100K on the clock when it happened. Oh, well. For $2700, we now have a transmission under warranty for a year, which can't be said for the rest of the truck. We will probably drive this one until the wheels fall off.

Worst-'99 New Beetle. Mexican built, more than likely on a Monday.

Best- '93 Ford Escort. My dad still drives it. Approaching half a million miles on original engine and drive train.

Was over in Nova Scotia, Canada, a few years ago and the farmer that had the next property to where I was staying gave me a lift in his Ford Escort, to my eyes tho it was a Ford Mondeo as we know them in the UK and not an Escort.

Worst: 2001 GMC Jimmy 4x4 purchased in 2012.
62,000 mi paid $5600 and had over $4000 in repairs, excluding tires, brakes, oil changes in about the year that I owned it. Most repairs were done by myself so most of this cost were for parts not garage labor. Something would break or fail on this vehicle on almost a weekly basis, talk about a hanger queen.

Best: 1999 Ford Explorer 4x4 purchased in 2002.
44,000 mi paid $8900.00, sold it in 2011 had 150,000 mi. New owner drove it for another 45,000 mi before sending it to the bone yard earlier this year. The vehicle was still very sound mechanically but the body was just totally rusted out. Total repair cost on this vehicle, excluding tires, oil changes and brakes was about $2500 when I owned it. Again most repairs done by myself.

How's your memory/attention to detail (comparing CRX to HB)?

I see two differences in this 1990 model vs. my 1989...

+ My instrument panel top wasn't curved (w/slightly larger gauges), the top of mine was flat.
+ My seats were all gray, no red lines in the fabric.

Other (for 1990+)...

+ Tail lights were trimmed out a little differently, minus black trim.
+ Factory alloys had wider spokes.

Man, were those some nice seats for a relatively cheap car or what?! Mine stickered for ~$12k w/AC (remember when AC was optional?), but interest rates were like 20%...d'oh! Did the Civic Si HB also have a mandatory sunroof (I assume it did, all EX+ models usually do)?

Ah sorry @Mark I didn't notice your reply until now, nice shot of the interior, that looks similar to mine, I found a picture of my exact interior:

Definitely great sporty seats for the time, manual 5 speed transmission was close ratio short throws which made it a lot of fun to drive, I had the powered glass "moonroof" which I used all the time, definitely an awesome car, I once got it to an indicated 130mph on a long downhill mountain pass in Montana.

Yep bought it for $12k new with AC when I was 20 years old while home on leave from the Army, with the down payment I saved while stationed for 2 years in Germany, I was so young that the dealers didn't want to let me test drive it, and I broke in the engine driving it 2000 miles from Seattle to Texas to my next duty station at Ft. Hood when my 2 week leave was over.

Such a great car, and so many great memories...

You made a good choice too, there were times I wish I had the CRX which had that unique great looking rear, and times where I was thankful for having the HB with the two back seats to haul friends around with, the grass is always greener on the other side, how long did you keep your CRX Si?

I've only owned 3 cars in my life up to now.

1983 Chevy Caprice Classic
1998 Chevy Cavalier
2005 Toyota Corolla

The worst by far was the Cavalier and the best has been the Toyota.

Can they be the same vehicle?

My 1970 International Scout II. International orange body, international blue top.

The bad: Three gears, of which first was for pulling down houses or stumps out of the ground and rarely used. No power steering, so one had to be moving turn the wheel. The frame was a bit "tweaked" and the doors didn't quite fit, with about a quarter inch gap on the bottom. The generator vibrated into two pieces and I had to rewire the whole thing myself after it melted all the wires. No radio. No real heat to speak of. Definitely no AC.

The good: She'd go ANYWHERE, was the "party wagon" of renown, was great fun to drive, and in first gear could pull a house down. We won't even get into what was possible in four low. Everything was repairable and easy to get to. Yes, she sucked gas, but it was the early '80's and gas was affordable.

Had some friends who a car that was always needing some kind of repair or what. It was called the Dart.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Ah, the Dodge Dart. One of the zombie cars - they never ran well but mostly refused to completely die, like the AMC Gremlin, the Mustang II, or the Chevette.

I had a '86 Plymouth Horizon that was the definition of a zombie car. I don't list it as the worst car I've ever owned because I got rid of it six months after I bought it.....literally handed the keys over to a guy in the unit along with the signed title and told him "I hate you, you f*cker, and you deserve this."

The funny thing is he thought I was kidding.

There is a well of evil within me that sometimes insists on being drawn from.

My best was a 1995 Audi urS6 sedan with an RS2 turbo, manifold and chipped ECU running 25 lbs of boost. The car was very unassuming but pulled like a beast - a real sleeper.

Worst was probably a Fiat 124 sports coupe, early 70's? Aluminum block (supposedly a feature) which would absolutely refuse to start when the temps were below freezing, and I live in Minnesota.

Best was a 1980 (?) Ford F-150 4x with dual fuel tanks. It had factory air, which I thought was soooo cool. I actually thought all the other drivers on the road were noticing that I was driving around with my windows UP, LOL! Mostly, I have always had company vehicles, which is kind of nice, irregardless of the make/model.

Worst, 1984 Dodge Omni that I drove back and forth to college back in the early 90s. It was a perfect example of why the Japanese were kicking our tails in the 80s.

Best is probably the 1995 Saturn SL1 that we bought just after I graduated from college. That thing ran like a top, was great on gas, accelerated well for the engine in it and never failed to start. I loved that car. It certainly wasn't very fancy but it did the job.
