Love it, but too much rigging in 1/72 scale for my skills,...I ´d rather go for an "easy" 1/32 like this:

Great to see Airfix is not only still around, but also adding to a fantastic range.

I still remember my very first Airfix model, the Albatross D.V. The pieces were moulded light blue plastic, and it was packaged in a soft plastic bag with a thickish coloured paper header. That was way back in 1966. smile2

Doesn't it look like a pre-WOFF teaser screenshot with that "Zeppelin"?

Like this?
Pips, my first aircraft models were also from AIRFIX.
Mine were in a blue plasik box, and 1:72 scale they cost 2,- DM.

Nice, The wingnutwings site has a lot of WW1 archive photos for each of their models.

For example:

Yep, it is a great fund of historical photos, many of them provided by Greg vanWyngarden's huge collection.
I can only recommend to dive into that archive.

I think most of us 'cut our teeth' on Airfix models. Back in the early 90s I actually published a set of rules for aerial combat using 1/72 scale models.

My first Airfix kit was a Fairey Swordfish (Stringbag) on floats, nice to see that they still have the old kit in circulation. They're a little light in the WWI selection, other than the Handley Page O/400, only the Eindekker and the BE2c are available.

Airfix Dogfight doubles kit

My first WWI kits were from Renwal and Revell. The Revell company made a 3 model, WWI boxed set with a Nieuport 11, Albatros D.III, and a Airco DH2, that was my first WWI kit set. The Airco was particularly fussy to assemble.

I liked the Old WWI Renwal kits with the 'Aeroskin' coverings of printed tissue paper. Although harder to get it to look 'nice', the technique of using tissue over the 'ribs' of their understructure with a coating of varnish came out looking better than my trying to hand paint on the colors of the Revell kits.

A history of Rewall aeroskin kits

And from the plastic kits came my love of scale rubber powered balsa and tissue kits, and from there to miniature R/C film and balsa models as an adult.

Its kinda weird, but my 1st model was an" Albatros DV or DVa " I remember that it was in purple plastic and I spent a long time getting the Top wing to stay on. I used to build Airfix during my mid-teens in 1/72nd Scale later I looked to other kits for more Detail. thumbsup
