Rama II by Arthur C. Clarke.
By the way, if you are a Scifi fan and you like authors like Clarke, Asimov, and Heinlein - who would you recommend from among more modern scifi authors? I am about to read "The Martian" by Andy Weir after I complete the Rama series. I enjoyed the movie "The Martian" and I am ready for something new.

Letterboy, check out Peter F. Hamilton. He created a whole universe with pretty hardcore SciFi of the Space Opera type. My favorites of his are "Pandora's Star" and "Judas Unchained". But currently I'm reading Enemy of God, the second book of Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles.
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Mr Hamilton created several 'universes' and usually has a few duologies or trilogies in each. I think it would be best to start with the Pandora's Star (and it's conclusion, Judas Unchained), or with stand-alone novel Great North Road. The latter is a futuristic whodunnit.
His writing style is to plunge you right into the thick of it, with a lot of technical terms that make no sense at all (although it's often easy to guess what it's about) - but if you keep reading, all will become clear.

Unbroken In boyhood, Louis Zamperini was an incorrigible delinquent. As a teenager, he channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics. But when World War II began, the athlete became an airman, embarking on a journey that led to a doomed flight on a May afternoon in 1943. When his Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean, against all odds, Zamperini survived, adrift on a foundering life raft. Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will. Source: http://www.amazon.com/Unbroken-World-Sur...asap_bc?ie=UTF8Wheels

"La Terre" by Emile Zola in French, no less...
I'll probably never finish it, but ought to try anyway.
Cheers, Slug

The Trilogy (Trylogia) by Henryk Sienkiewicz Translated by Jeremiah Curtin (1890) The three books are: With Fire and Sword The Deluge Pan Michael (Sir Michael) The books are about the history and creation of Poland and their struggle with Russia, Sweden and the influence of the Mongols had on the formation of the country. I had been looking for them for more than 10 years and finally got them on Kindle, they were recommended to me by a Polish friend a long time ago, I had found the third book a good while ago but have held off reading it until I had read the first two. The English translation is "quaint" and a bit old fashioned but still very readable, so far it reads like a love story ... with swords

The Forever War by Joe Halderman. Been working on this for a few weeks. Get a few pages here and there. This is a crazy time of year for me (10-12 hour days working as close to 60 hour weeks as possible) so its been really hit or miss the past few weeks.

Really good story that, never read the follow-ups though, heard mixed reviews about them.

I'm reading The Martian by Andy Weir . . . AWESOME! Can't recommend it enough. I saw the movie, but the book in no way suffers from this. Must read!
