Does anyone know if you have to purchase a copy of Neveda to host multiplayer only (as in not to play only have clients connect)

I doubt you can load a mission to host without actually having the map for said mission installed.

The question was asked on blue forum numerous times and If I recall correctly, yep, one has to buy a copy of the map. Maybe it will change when/if dedicated server version comes, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.

Yeah I know you need the map installed to load a mission using it

But what Iam asking is can install the map then load the mission using it but not play as a client ?

EDIT:
To be clearer

You have a spare PC (you want to use it to host missions SERVER ONLY not client)

You install DCS 2.0 Alpha onto it

You install Neveda map and load a NEVEDA mission , will this work without having to buy NEVEDA map

right now, a pirchase is required, along with the 29gb download

whether that changes when the dedicated server part is done I dont know.

Thanks for the answer Skate, damn shame it is like that
It makes great business sense to screw as much money out of people as you can
But it will limit the amount of people hosting Neveda based missions.

I understand stopping clients using a map that have not paid for but stopping people
from hosting a server using it is a bit crap

Look at it this way: The copy of any game you "purchase" is for one copy. I ran servers for my crew for a decade or so. It's only fair to purchase a copy for the server.

Business-wise there's a balance to strike between incentivizing giveaways and charging for the product. If you give everything away you get a lot of good will and interest but no money. If you charge for everything you stifle interest and good will and potentially a lot of profit by extension.

I think that all terrains should be openable in the ME. There's no point in denying someone the pleasure of making mission content. Servers are similar. A server hosting a mission is content using the resources of someone outside the company for free. It improves the product and does not deserve punishment by charging any amount of money. A million servers hosting missions after paying $0 to ED is a good thing and ED should encourage it at all means practical.

^ This guy gets it

That is why companies with vision eg BIS (Arma series) give away the server component (and maps) for free (for server)
they even have Windows and LINUX server versions (since linux server rental tends to be cheaper)

Maybe ED will give us a proper dedicated server that has been lacking for so long ... but I will not hold
my breath for it happening anytime within the next few years

That would make sense if you buy the "dedicated server" module
one day. No module was required up to know to host a mission,
DCS World was free and enough to host.

"Buy Dedicated server module"

It kinda doesn't work like that, dedi server is not a module it is a separate exe normally (usually comes with the install)

Trying to charge for a dedicated server exe would be retarded ... even for ED

So, the host has to pay for each map, although there
is no reason to enter the 3D world? They better sell
the "dedicated server" as an add-on ...

No other decent company charges for dedicated server, but then again this is ED

Well it could take them years to give us dedicated server ..... many many many years

I would prefer they do something now about having to pay for Neveda even tho it will be used for host only

Maybe add a new command switch to the DCS.exe -server

which means

1. You cannot select any plane slots
2. You don't need to pay for Neveda because you are only hosting using it not actually flying on it

Simples really

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean the implementation will be any good. If they go for a cash grab, it won't be good for MP. As it stands, last I checked there were loads of private servers but all too few public co-op ones, which is a shame really. I hope that dedicated servers might improve that situation.
