Hi all
I am a little confused as to why ED decided to release DCS 2 without the NTTR map included, considering that it's an alpha. The previous versions included a map was well as a flyable aircraft.
I'd have no trouble paying $49 for the map if it were a final retail version but asking to pay for an alpha version is unacceptable , in my opinion. It's like a car company saying we have the great new car for you but it's only got the engine and wheels attached and asking full MSRP for it.
As it is right now, I am unable to try out DCS 2 and that's a loss for ED. I should not have to pay for an alpha product in order for ED to get my input as to how it performs on my machine.
Thanks

They will be adding in the old map once it's been updated to be compatible with DCS 2.0.
I'd rather have access to the map (and other modules) early and see them evolve with time.

The 2.0 ALPHA uses the new terrain engine, and currently only NTTR is of the appropriate format to be used by it. My understanding is that the existing terrain will be ported to the new terrain engine eventually, but it isn't there right now.
The programs that handle terrain are actually different in 1.5 and 2.0, and that is why you cannot have NTTR in 1.5, and why you cannot have the black sea map in 2.0. It's purely technical.

NTTR is actually a pDLC Module, No point in including it if not everyone is getting it.
eventually 2.0 will have Black Sea Integrated, and that will be included.
Would you want to download 29 GB of data even if you have no intention of buying it?

Thanks for great feedback everyone!
I did realize that the Black Sea map in 1.5/1.2 couldn't be integrated into DCS 2.0 right away. It will be nice to have it when it does make the transition.
I guess my main point is that I don't understand why ED wants, in my opinion, a retail price for an alpha product? If the map were around $20 I could see it, but not at $49 which to me seems like a reasonable price if the map was a release candidate version.
Thanks

Thanks That's just it... You are not buying an alpha product. You are buying the final product, you just get alpha access. For instance, do you think you have to pay to have alpha access and pay again at release?

Why is everyone repeating that Nevada is an alpha ? Where does it say so ? If you look at the NTTR page on the store it says "download beta" I think 2.0 is the alpha (as stated on the 2.0 page), not NTTR

I think 2.0 is the alpha (as stated on the 2.0 page), not NTTR So if the map is a Beta...but the engine required to run it is Alpha...does that make it a Balpha?

No, no, no, Force10, haven't you read the post about ED product terminology ? It's a P/A/E/FM Alta

From my ED newsletter this morning: It's been almost a week since the release of DCS World 2.0 and the Open Alpha of the DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range map. And from Wags:
Dear all,
We realize that there is some confusion on how the DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range map will be released on Steam. We have every intention of making this module/DLC available on Steam once it is first released as an Open Alpha on the DCS E-shop (late November 2015).
I guess it depends where you look. I think I remember them calling it an Alpha somewhere in their forum as well.

Today's Newsletter stated it was Alpha.
