A bit off topic but I'm curious to know. Which year did all of you start PC gaming? I'm talking about gaming on a PC-IBM compatible system and not something like an Amiga or Atari 800. Me: 1989

Me: 1989 1987/1988. Was one of those old monochrome "sims" of that era. It was a Mighty 8th type of flying simulation where I almost always got the navigator of my B-17 killed by "virtual" flak since it was not modeled. You just got a message that he had been killed. Made getting home quite a challenge but it could be done with a lot of luck. Whole game came on a 5-1/4 floppy disk. Always kicked myself for not copying it to a 3.5 before the disk went bad. Wheels

Me: 1989 I first started to play on a PC circa 1991-1992 using a Schneider Euro PC that was owned by a cousin of mine (at that time I still didn't own a PC) and the first game that I played (on PC) was Price of Persia. By the way the Schneider Euro PC was a very archaic computer which came with a monochromatic monitor and Graphic Card (Hercules) and it had a Floppy disk drive but it didn't have any Hard Disk Drive (first you needed to boot the Operating system from a floppy disk and after the OS was booted then you could remove the floppy disk that contained the OS in order to insert the floppy disk that contained the game or program that you wished to run). Here's an image from a Schneider Euro PC: http://www.ntrautanen.fi/computers/other/images/schneider_europc.jpgIt was only in 1993 when I owned my first PC which as an IBM PS2 which already had a Hard Disk Drive (40MB if I recall correctly) and a VGA monitor and graphic card. The first game that I played on this PC (my first one) was the helicopter sim LHX.

I've moved away from PC games years ago, can't keep up with the gaming rigs as my money goes to photography gear instead. But even my Xbox gaming is down, haven't played since spring. Games aren't keeping my interest like they used to.

Was also my first PC game along with Falcon AT. Those TOW missiles are fun to launch at those poison equipped Kips after a WTH? crash after flying through green smoke.

Yes, DaBBQ is right about the list of flyables in LHX! But just one note about the flyables, you didn't actually fly the Comanche in LHX. What you could fly was a helicopter named LHX (which besides being the name of the game it was also the name of the competition where the Comanche ended up wining) and that LHX helicopter was actually the concept from Bell and McDonnell Douglas (if I'm not mistaken) that competed (and lost) against the Boeing/Sikorsky concept (where the Comanche was the result). Controlling those TOWs could be fun and frustrating at the same time, LoL I believe that you're confusing LHX with Gunship 2000, PanzerMeyer. In Gunship 2000 you could fly the Cobra, Kiowa, Apache, MD500, Blackhawk and Comanche.

Me: 1989 1993, first game I bought was Betrayal at Krondor. I played the hell out of that game but was mostly a console guy until I bought my first dedicated gaming PC in 1999. The late '90s to early 2000s were my peak gaming years, I haven't really been a hardcore simmer since 2003 nor have I even spent a lot of time on games since then that didn't have Elder Scrolls, Fallout or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in the title.

Tandy 286 12mhz, no hard drive. First sims, the very reason for buying the PC, were "Jetfighter" and "Chuck Yeagers Air Combat". I thought I had died and gone to heaven.

Like many of you mid-lifers, there's life to be lived (although no rock climbing for me). My games are old (mostly DOS), easy and quickly played, games that don't take a lot of my time.
What I don't do anymore is stay up late playing games or working on projects. Every night I go to bed with my wife, with few exceptions (even if sometimes I'm reading the board). And this isn't about sex, it's about just being there, going to sleep together and waking up together, not taking time for granted anymore.
Every day could be your last for any number of reasons, you just don't think about it when you're young. As morbid as I sound, I think I'm starting to lose my mid-life anxieties. The dreams are fading and I feel more...relaxed.

I'm 42, and yeah, the thrill is starting to wane. It started with the fact that I simply do not have the time to devote to learning DCS, which is why I haven't bought anything new for it and probably won't. I simply do not have the time. Then it started to affect my enjoyment of Strike Fighters 2. I kept asking myself, "why do I want to play a game that I have to spend even more time to improve?"
Now, when I do get some game time in, it's games that are established, and more importantly, games that are finished. I don't want to have to spend any more time other than installation to get it up and running. This is why I have a PS3, the games don't require anything beyond throwing it into the disc slot. Between a job, two children, a master's degree-in-progress, and a wife that demands that I spend time with her (crazy woman...) I simply don't have the time to devote to something more complicated.
The only real simming I do now is racing games. I can't stand arcade racers, but I will admit my G27 will be the very last hardcore gaming peripheral I will ever buy. The idea of racing with a gamepad controller is just useless to me. I seriously entertained the idea of getting Project CARS during the last Steam sale, but I realized I just didn't want to spend the money.

I still enjoy gaming, but sims don't really do it for me like they used to. I just don't have the time to give them and I like to l like to play golf and be outside if the sun is shining. When I game now, it's typically a shooter or an RTS like the Company of Heroes games.

As I get older I much prefer to pirate games simply because they work better than the legit ones. And the customer support tends to be much better and quicker to. And that is the sad, pathetic truth and the game developers know it. I've been with Ubisoft back and fourth for 1 month for them to sort out their Uplay client. Only half of their issues have been fixed. I could have just pirates my games in less time and they would have worked better to. I just sent them a f-ck you message edit.
Then lets take Codemaster's Operation Flashpoint Red River. I spent under 90 minutes playing it today. The game was #%&*$# and there was no intelligible way to change classes at the start of each mission so I exited the game to search it via Google. Found out how to do it, then loaded the game up. 2 hours later I can still to resume my progress. Corrupted saves. Download new saves. Same issue and more. I've now spent more time figuring out how to fix my game saves, which are right there; I can see them - than playing the game. I've now wasted an entire evening of my free time for nothing. I was weary of Humble Bundle ever since one of their "charities" sent "donations" to what essentially was a group of rapists. I should have known they would have no problem selling non-functional games. And their customer service is atrocious to. edit
You spend 30 minutes playing and 2 hours trouble shooting these days. And its getting worse with companies raping us with obscene prices.
I'm going to think long and hard about my next purchase and may just go straight to pirating it instead of buying it first. No reason to give these ungrateful - any money. Game devs are stuck up - who want us to be thankful for providing them job security. They should be thanking us for even taking an interest in their over valued "work".
I'd have just as much fun as I used to if the game devs let me.

I was really looking forward to racking up some time gaming again but I found my reflexes had diminished considerably
This is very common. It's one of the reasons why I barely play any kind of "twitch" first person shooters anymore. Games like Thief and Armed Assault are much more my style now.
