What are some films that were trashed by critics that you yourself thought were quite good?

Two films immediately come to my mind,

1. Chronicles of Riddick -- Critic average score on Rottentomatoes: 29%

2. Star Trek Nemesis -- Critic average score on Rottentomatoes: 37%

Waterworld wasn't received poorly, it just tanked.

Dune: RT 56%
Eragon: RT 16% (wow, didn't expect it to be that low!)
The Transporter: RT 53%

I've enjoyed all Riddick movies too, although I think only Pitch Black was well received(?).

Reign of Fire

Alien vs Predator (just the first!)

The Fast and the Furious. I know it's cheesy and the worst soundtrack ever next to The Transporter, but I like cars and I think Vin took a not so serious role very seriously and did a great job of it.

The Transporter...come to think of it.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist...it just cracks me up.

I'm sure there are PLENTY more. Much like games, I usually like the ones that land in the 6/10 range. LOL
That's why I don't put much stock in reviews and scores.

"Barb Wire" is my guilty pleasure.

One of my favorite rock groups "Die Cheerleader" even plays in the movie as house band for Pamela Anderson's bar. (and contributes to the soundtrack).

The movie itself as remake of "Casablanca" in a dystopian future is cleverly written around Anderson's abilities, so I can enjoy her "acting" and Udo Kier's and Temuera Morrison's (Once Were Warriors, Jango Fett) performance.

Waterworld here too. And Last Action Hero.

Alien vs. Predator got bad reviews? Didn't remember that, but that's my third one. I find it fantastic.

OTOH, I never listen to critics anyways.

Yeah, Barb Wire was pretty good. At least a very nice distraction. LOL
Johnny Mneumonic is another. And Hackers, as terribly written as it is with glass glowing servers etc.

Hansel & Gretel I watched on Netflix one night when I was bored. I thought it was great.

I forgot about "Alien vs Predator". I like it even with all of its campy dialogue and acting. Having Lance Henriksen in the film was a big plus.

It was definitely the weakest of the movies with the original cast but I definitely enjoyed it.

I thought Outlander was very underrated, and Jim Caviezel I have always liked since The Thin Red Line.

Come to think of it, Thin Red Line was not received that well either yet I loved it.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining

The critics hated it.

I must have seen it 20 times.

Road House.
I take a lot of crap about that one.

Road House trivia: At one point, Patrick Swayze was approached to star in the film Predator 2 (1990) but was unable to, because he was injured during the filming of this movie.
