Yes, I can confirm - I had a similar experience with DH-2 - new strange, some kind of "whistling" noise and engine low power. I am not sure about propeller, because damage to it would bring increased vibration. I suppose it was simply a new type of engine damage modelled. Very immersive, indeed .

Well, every single bullet fired is a potential "problem". Fired from a machine gun, that makes many potential problems in rapid succession. One of them may hit something vital, and become a real problem.
With a sick-sounding engine, I recommend to reduce throttle, and try to get back to the nearest airfield. If it sounds really bad, switch off and glide back, if you can.

Prop damage is something I've wanted in all sims for years. Including that caused by malfunctioning synchronization.
...which led, in the case of Max Immelmann, to the breaking-up of his Fokker Eindecker. Due to wrong synchronisation, he shot one prop blade off. This caused such a tremendous jarring, that the fuselage frame broke behind the cockpit. Such things would add some more realism, but I bet the outcry would be loud from pilots, who lost their 50-plus-hours pilots through a shot off prop? "Switch off and glide back." Lately I've become a master at that! Until last night, when the glide ended on a house. Was it so cold outside? (Mmuahahahahaaa!!!)

[quote=JFM] Such things would add some more realism, but I bet the outcry would be loud from pilots... And there should be. And then OBD would have to (for the sake of realism) issue a patch that cures the problem. Realistically, no air force in the world would allow this problem to continue. They'd either fix it or withdraw the plane from service.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

...it's the bone stock standard WOFF-DM. There was a loud Bang, Flames everywhere... and after I turned off the Engine, the Flames extinguished and one could see the Damage. There really were 3 Cylinders missing

Wodin, we talked about that, recently... and personally I think, that the Syncro-Failure still is very probable. He flew an E4 with the UR3-Double-Row-Rotary. This Engine is extremely heavy and it looks like the only thing, that holds it in Place, is a tiny "Crankshaft", where it revolves around. The slightest Imbalance (i. e. a shot off Propeller Blade) would be enough, to literally tear the Engine off the Plane. The Syncro-Device itself consisted of a flexible Shaft (more a Wire, really), very much like the Tach-Drive you have in your Car (when it's not digital)... and that surely wasn't the brightest Idea. Have you ever experienced a slight Wobble of the Hands in your Speedo or Rev Counter in your Car? This would have been the Point, where you'd shot off your Propeller... Here is another Pic, where you can see the missing Cylinders: ...I think I lost 'em somewhere near Verdun, if anyone wants to help me finding them...

Olham..there are some who think Max was either shot down, hit by an Arty round or crashed through pilot error but to make it look like he was not at any fault or had been bettered in combat they used this story as a kind of cover up.
Not sure where I read this but it wasn't to long ago.
Thank you for the hint - I had read about his death in the book "Der Adler von Lille", which is quite old already. I checked WIKI on that, and there the German page says, that he was shot down by friendly artillery fire. Understandable, that no one wanted to admit THAT, when one of their greatest aces is falling through this.

Flying a Fokker EIV with front gun accuracy set to "less accurate" I shot up my own tail! Ricochets ? We were attacking an enemy balloon, so it could have been the ground fire...BUT...also had it happen in a QC dogfight over friendly turf. Edit/update; Tried a few QC solo flights and wasn't able to duplicate the damage. So it doesn't look like the damage was caused the players guns at all now. The Fokkers sure drop like rocks when their tail is shot up and there is a loss of elevator control.
