First thank you glad you like the stuff that is being done here for CK.
As for the performed compared to the DH2, the FE8 had a better roll rate with them full wing length ailerons, the big reason the DH2 pilots like the FE8 better was that the DH2 was known to catch fire with its 60 percent cloth covered body, the FE8 was a all wood and sheet metal covered body and was less likely to catch fire on its own, also the DH2 had a fixed Lewis gun and the FE8's gun had some movement up, down, left and right to it, but you are right by the time the FE8 came in it was already out classed by the Alb's D and was quickly replaced by Sopwith Pup's and tri-planes.
Now as for your stick setup, I my self use a all in one joystick, rudder twist, and throttle and the game takes to any one that I have put on to it and its been a few already, I do know of a few guys that use rudder pedals and the game works well with them also, I do have there info on how to setup the game config for this if you should need it.
