We got real high to patrol the lines. Ran into Hun as we flew into the sun.

Mission 21 was an uneventful front line patrol.
I'm parking the Camel until Saturday.

Yeah. I admit, even if the were more EA-Spottings in my Campaign, my Rule of Thumb is to only act in Self-Defense, or to help out others, when the Odds are against them...

Escort 6 R.E. 8's from RFC-16 on reconnaissance @ FF1195.
B-flight: 7 craft led by MacLaren. A-flight: 6 planes providing top cover.
Once we met up with the R.E. 8's it was a giant formation of 19 planes. We lost one straight away still over friendly territory to mechanical failure. Last time I looked he was circling an airfield. I hope he made it. Once over the lines we encountered a flight of 5 unidentified enemy panes with 4-ship escort above and 1 below. We went after them, but were cut off by another flight of 4 Alb. D.V's. Now the escort joined in as well. These were Pfalzes. It was a veritable battle royale. Planes to the left, planes to the right, above and below. I latched on to a D.V and shot up his engine.

A Pfalz was now on my tail shooting at me. I went into an unintentional spin, but recovered and went after the Pfalz. He ended up on fire.

By this time everyone scattered. I was able to find a bunch of D.V's and Pfalzes landing together at Roucourt and sent 2 of them crashing into the ground.

It was too close for comfort for my wingman and me. I was hit by nearby flak burst, receiving blast damage with my health reduced to 97. It was time to go. We returned home but have no news what happened to the recce planes. 3 out of 4 claims were confirmed.

And the best part is that my computer didn't complain about so many planes in the air. Go figure. BTW it's 1918! eek2

Close air support.
B-flight: 6 craft led by MacLaren. A-flight: 5 planes directly assisting.
We're to escort 7 R.E. 8's from RFC-5 to FA4116. Something's off about MacLaren today. We've reached the rendezvous point, the R.E. 8's flew right by us, but our leader seemed not to notice them and kept on circling, as if waiting for the next formation of large, easily noticeable planes to fly by. I had to signal him to bring it to his attention. We eventually caught up with them and acted as if it all was part of the plan. We were nearly at the enemy's army base when they turned back and dropped their load on a nearby rail yard. They went over it a few times dropping bombs each time, then formed up and headed for home. No enemies were sighted.

Sorry guys, I just started a new job this week and haven't been able to get any air time. I doubt I'll complete any more missions before close off date so just take points from wherever they were left off.

At least I'll "survive" this campaign.

I'll probably carry on posting into this thread though whenever I do get a chance to fly just to see "what might have been" smile

Well done the rest of the fellas. After a shaky start it looks like 46 squadron has become a band of killers!

Rabbits, break right and climb.

...am I THAT stupid? zombie
Guys, maybe, you can help me with a Problem:

When I count the Days by Calendar, I have got 54. I'll subtract 2 Days I have already advanced, to play Mission 23, makes 52...

But when I count the Days, that SHOULD HAVE passed by Missions, that makes 66:
22 times 2 (Days Advance per Mission) makes 44,
plus 4 for the 2 Months,
plus 18 in Hospital for my weird "Parking-Accident" (thought about that again... probably just rolled into a Bomb-Crater I wasn't aware of...)

So, where do these 14 Days Difference hide and what am I going to do now with Advance (or not)?

Here are my Papers... maybe, you spot, where I am thinking wrong...

As you can see on Page 2 of my Flight Log, I made a minor Advance-Mistake on 19/11/1917:
I advanced 5 Days, because I thought, a Medal would earn me 5 Days Advance. I somewhat corrected that by advancing only one Day between the next Mission and not taking the 2 Days off for the Month - so I have only got 2 Days too many, that I must subtract in the End.

...so, what am I going to do, now?
Advance 12 Days? (14 - 2)
Subtract 2?
Leave it as it is?
Drink more Coffee?

As for the Missions themselves:
The Enemy continues to avoid us, so here are some nice Dawn-Patrol-Shots:

Don't worry about it, I think most everybody is probably off track on the date progression.

I plan to fly my last mission ( # 23 ) on Sunday the 8th about 2200hrs AZ time and fill ot the form on line soon after.

Is that time frame OK???

I hope the next challange is a few days off, my poor old wrist needs some "ice time" and rest!

Sure has been fun!

The most exciting thing so far is being caught 9 Km inside enemy lines at mid Altitude all alone going after 2 Alb's.
I have done this before so no sweat--- then I see my fuel line is hit and my tank is soon to be empty and I have a hole in my hide that needs some hospital time ( I all ready spent 13 days there a few missions ago ). I found that gliding at 125 Kph works OK. One of the Alb over shot me so I put a few rounds in one and both went home. I landed just inside the "blue land" and somewhat rumpled my Camel. Very close to being gone from the contest!

After mission 20 last eve. I have 23 kills and have been arround for 105 days. Do I plan on playing it safe for the next 3 missions--- Hell No!

Patrol behind enemy front lines over Houplin.
B-flight: 7 craft led by Thomson. A-flight: 5 planes directly assisting.
We went over the airfield expecting heavy resistance, but all we found was a lonely Pfalz circling the field, probably separated from his schwarm with mechanical problems. I downed him nonetheless and he ended augering right in the middle of the airfield.

I thought this may slow down any other planes attempting to land there when we come back second time around. We didn't find anyone there after returning. The Germans must be running low on planes, I guess. We circled the airfield and returned home.

Airfield attack @ Douai.
B-flight: 6 craft led by Oscar Trask. A-flight: 6 planes directly assisting.
Our preferred method of attacking airfields is with bombs, so that is what we had loaded on our planes. We arrived over the field, while A-flight was already finishing their strafing runs. We dropped our bombs and boys started strafing the 'drome. I stayed above making sure we don't get jumped. A bunch of Pfalzes showed up just in time to see their base go down in flames. Since I was the one with the most altitude I was the first one to have a go at them.

Got some hits on one and he started smoking, but had no chance to finish him off as his friends objected to me making holes in their planes.

The next Pfalz was not so lucky as the first. He started smoking and eventually caught on fire.

By this time the fight was brought down to the level where the rest of my flight could engage. Pfalzes couldn't ignore them and I was released to pursue another one of them. It took me a while but eventually he ended on fire and to add insult to injury he crashed into the trees.

By now my flight was gone and on their way home. I followed their example, but not before strafing and destroying another Pfalz that has landed in open field. I think it was my initial pray that I had to let go. So, returning home by myself, all smiles with 3 kills under my belt, I run into another flight of 4 Pfalzes. There was no way to go around them. I flew straight through their formation, guns blazing, scattering them in all directions. This gave me the chance to put some distance between them and myself. All 4 started following me. They must have been mad, because they didn't stop their pursuit after I crossed the front lines. I took them on a scenic route of British lines, an observation balloon and finally of the airfield. They received a warm welcome at each and every point of interest. One of them turned back, probably too badly damaged to continue, but the other 3 kept on following.

What have I done to make them this mad? I finally decided that they must be shot up enough for me to take them on. I ended up on the tail of one of them, checking my six as often as possible for the other two. I put a few rounds in him and as his friends did not get on my tail yet I kept peppering him until he caught fire and went down.

The other two, seeing this, turned back and went for the front lines. I was relieved, but wasn't going to let them go without saying good-bye. I caught up with one of them and emptied my guns, hoping for a lucky hit, but didn't bring him down. I had to let them go. I landed and put in a claim for 4.

Well, I've survived and here are my final stats. I felt pretty confident, but Fullofit shoots down planes by the bucketful so it looks pretty dicey.

Banjoman, I've got nothing on ya. I'm way behind your score. Congrats on surviving another challenge. I still have to fly my last mission.
