...and it did become painful. Never knock up your comedy partner. One of the best shows on tv at first. The Taming of the Shrew episode was EPIC though, wasn't it? LOL
Castle reminds me of it a little bit, with roles reversed. At least Castle and Beckett. They've handled the character progression much better.
Bond films used to be known for setting the bar on action sequences and stunts with each new movie.
Now they are just bland.
Look at the action sequences and stunts in franchises like Fast and Furious and Mission Impossible.
Every time I watch one of those films, I ask why can't the Bond writers come up with that anymore?

The Bond films now are supposed to be grounded much more on the real world. Think about the Bourne films. Those heavily influenced this latest iteration of Bond. The Mission Impossible films have gone the other way and the F&F films are just absurd.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
First appearance on the screen, the first impression you get of this character is someone in control, indifferent, attractive. Setbacks or spontaneous things which come up don't rattle him, he doesn't get excited, cool as ice. With his expressions, he looks as though he knows what's going to happen. He's he's seen it all before. When I go out to anything social, it is difficult if not impossible to see anyone else's behavior look like that when women are around, the natural, effortless cool and indifferent charm is almost impossible for anyone to fake.
The filmmakers do everything right. Bond actually thinks like a woman- he's able to outwit them at their own game, and he makes it look effortless. He creates a mask of intrigue. Because women are natural prodders and cats who want to poke around and experiment and see what makes a guy tick, and are more interested in guys whose feelings are unclear (indifference is attractive) he's irresistible to women- he actually does it to the women in return, through very subtle prodding to see how the girl behaves and through use of innuendo, sizing one another up, Bond 'gets it'. There is a sacrifice though, to get that comfortable and appealing to women destroys things like feelings, highs and lows are not experienced anymore.
At 1:52, Bond gives a look of intrigue with his eyes only, does not move his body towards the girl, his eyes do all the talking to invite her where he's going. This happens in an instant, and most people will tend to miss this. When women give similar signals like this to males, perhaps 95 percent of guys won't read a signal like that, it's too subtle (but to women doing it, it's obvious to them). The attraction window is there for an instant, and Bond is one of the few who recognizes it and moves in.
Why would women who are attractive to many people do this? They get so much attention, it's their weeding out process to find only the select types of guys who have the experience with it and the confidence to know what the girl wants and to follow. That's how people test one another to gauge their souls. One of the first things Bond does is put the suggestion that the girl is 'out to get him.' To say something like that to a woman is very inviting and suggestive, like a toy hidden from a cat, and is the kind of reverse psychology that Bond is so good at.

Agreed. I also thought when viewing the clip that today's audience would be put off by the use of French by the dealer and would not know what was going on.

I also like Goldfinger just because his plan even impressed Bond. He also would've been successful if it weren't for Bond "turning" Miss Galore. Urusula from Dr. No was probably the hottest Bond girl. WOW she looked great in a bikini. From Russia is probably my favorite of all of the Connery movies. Robert Shaw, before he hunted sharks, hunted Bond! You Only Live Twice was pretty good too, other than trying to pass Connery off as Japanese. Vulcan, maybe. LOL
Bond does very little in Goldfinger if you watch carefully. He basically talks to people and preoccupies them. He gets pretty much no intel out, he doesn't even stop the bomb at the end. Odd Job's death is one of the few things he can take credit for, really.
Goldfinger has one major plothole. Solo wants out with his money, so GF gives it to him, has Odd Job drive him to a junkyard where he shoots the guy, then lets the car with the gold and dead guy in back get crushed...meanwhile, he explains his plan to all the others who didn't want out, but kills all THEM too???
GF seems quite intelligent at first, but those two acts are just stupid and unnecessary. He should've just killed them all once we got them together and not bothered explaining a thing. Bond wouldn't have learned the plan, either.

Well Bond did manage to turn Miss Galore back onto our team. That's a plus!
Or maybe she was on our team already and she was just pretending to be on the other team to brush Bond off.
The scene of Ms. Galore's flying circus pilots landing their planes and meeting her near the runway, some of them were actually guys dressed like girls.
Maybe she liked her guys dressed up like girls cause back in the 60's there weren't too many women who were openly admitting to not playing on our team.

Um, so which one in that picture is a guy?

That was in the book, not the film. Fleming's ridiculous "turn a lesbian straight by being a real man" idea was ignored even in 1964. It's suggested by implication, but other than Galore resisting both GF's gross advances and Bond's rather transparent charms at first, there's no evidence of it. The actress could have used it as an aid, to think the character could pretend not to be into men in order to be treated as an equal in a rather chauvinistic organization, but the idea that she actually had zero interest in men isn't demonstrated.

I have all the Bond movie books and I read about it as early as 1986 in a Bond movie book celebrating 25 years of movie Bond that was released right before Dalton's TLD.
Then it's also now posted in IMDB trivia for Goldfinger.
2nd picture, the 2 in the background are definitely guys. The one in the front on the right is questionable too.

That's a wise philosophy. If you can't visually inspect the "goods" it's better to be safe than sorry.

I've seen the movie a dozen times. I don't need to have someone else tell me what's in it, I can make that determination myself, and it's not. IMDB is wrong all the time, so I hardly bow to its claims.
