Hey guys,
I'm looking to get myself a laptop for work, photo editing (Capture One / Lightroom / Photoshop) and gaming. Was looking for something with 16GB of RAM, an i7 proc and a great screen. I realize that I won't be able to run DCS and the latest sims, or at least not in any sort of full details. But I'd like to run games like XCOM / Banner Saga / Total War / Civ / Company of Heroes with reasonable details that is.
I was looking at either a 15" MacBookPro or the latest Dell XPS15. Something lighter than a Alienware, in any case.
So, any recommandation, experiences?
I am a little concerned since my current home comp is kinda old and long in the tooth, running a Radeon 5870 ... and the video cards on these laptops, GTX 960M or Radeon R9 M370X, might not provide even the same level of performance?
Thanks!

elanaiba, Something to consider is re-looking at the Alienware, but rather than the 15 inch and higher ones, why not consider the Alienware 13? It can have up to 16gb of RAM, an i7 processor and a great screen. Then, you could expand with their graphics amplifier, allowing you to run the rig on a GPU docking station, upgrading the graphics card to the latest one you desire, on an external screen. Then, when needed for trips or living room surfing, just detach the laptop and use it's smaller display. Here's a copy of the link: http://www.alienware.com/landings/laptops.aspxI have the Alienware 17 and graphics amplifier. It's a fantastic combination and very flexible. Also, the AW13 is lighter than the Dell and same as the MacBook Pro. It's the graphics amplifier in my opinion, that makes the difference and the amplifier is only wired for the current Alienware laptop line. Anyway, my .02

MSI is releasing a "lightweight" laptop for gaming. Apparently, most gaming laptops use too much power and are too heavy to be convenient laptops. MSI is reported to be "changing that". For what its worth, here's the article: MSI Lightweight Gaming Laptop
Sapphire Pulse RX7900XTX, 3 monitors = 23P (1080p) + SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey Neo G7 1000R curve (4K/2160p) + 23P (1080p), AMD R9-7950X (ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 420), 64GB RAM@6.0GHz, Gigabyte X670E AORUS MASTER MB, (4x M.2 SSD + 2xSSD + 2xHD) = ~52TB storage, EVGA 1600W PSU, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower, ASUS RT-AX89X 6000Mbps WiFi router, VKB Gladiator WW2 Stick, Pedals, G.Skill RGB KB, AORUS Thunder M7 Mouse, W11 Pro

Interesting, I was not aware of this option. How good is the onboard video on your A17? Currently running a nVidia GTX980M, which has 4k resolution potential but the current laptop display is 1980 x 1024. I am trying to get that screen updated to 4k to supplement my external 4k monitor. This combination allows greater longevity and flexibility for future growth. The only limitation for future growth is your laptop CPU. The graphics amplifier can only run a single GPU also, though rumor is that will soon be expanded. With this setup, I'll probably never go back to a desktop. It's a great setup! BTW, my signature has my laptop specs.

Thanks! What about the default video board, without using the graphic amplifier? Thats what I described above....not certain what you mean. The onboard graphics is great! Graphics amplifier equally impressive for it's continued expandability and future GPU growth. You have the ability to purchase an R3 which has a 4K screen. Mine is an R2 with 1980 x 1024 only, while running off the amplifier, 4K on the amplifier. Make sense? Interesting, I was not aware of this option. How good is the onboard video on your A17?
