Thanks to Hawke and Keating's reforms the daily fluctuations in the dollar are now largely beyond government control but there is one shot in the locker a brave government can take to lift the struggling Aussie. An online petition that has gained over 5000 signatures calls on the leaders of Australia's major parties to get behind a proposal to rename the currency "Dollarydoos".
"This will make millions of people around the world want to get their hands on some Australian currency due to the real life Simpsons reference, driving up the value of the Australian currency," the petition's author Thomas Probst argues. "If the leaders of this great nation have any common sense at all, they will introduce legislation to parliament to change the name of our currency as soon as possible."
The term "Dollarydoos" was first uttered in a 1995 episode of The Simpsons titled "Bart vs Australia". In the episode the Simpsons visit Australia after Bart makes a costly collect call to an Australian home to ask them which way the water spins as it drains out of their sink. When the father in the Australian household sees the enormous phone bill he screams "Nine hundred dollarydoos!" ninemsn has contacted Treasurer Scott Morrison to see if the popular proposal has his backing. It's got mine for what it's worth.

Man I don't even remember that episode and I love old Simpsons seasons. Time to go re-watch some IIRC that's probably in the episode where he collect calls to Australia to check which direction the water goes in the toilet. to save you some time *my bad, see it's in the article lol

Time to go re-watch some Just watch all 25+ seasons on dvd. That should keep you busy for a while. They drop off a cliff badly at some point, the good seasons are the early ones like most TV shows.

Just watch all 25+ seasons on dvd. That should keep you busy for a while. They drop off a cliff badly at some point, the good seasons are the early ones like most TV shows. Well, there was a significant slump with the tenth ... fourteenth season, mostly because the good writers were repurposed to write Futurama episodes. Once that Futurama largely stopped producing new seasons some quality returned to the Simpsons. Not on equal footing with the sixth to eighth season which probably were THE highlight - but still largely watchable IMO, with occasional returns of true genius.

out of those 5000 online signatures, I wonder how many of them actual live in Australia Hopefully none of them Nobody I know has signed it. Pretty damn stupid thing to have a petition for really.

Pretty damn stupid thing to have a petition for really. You can blame the internet and social media specifically for that. Some people claim that America's influence is declining but that certainly doesn't include entertainment (ie tv shows, movies, sports, etc.)
