I started at the beginning with IL2 in 2005 and ran it to its final "factory" upgrade which I think was 1946.

Started at the beginning (and still fly daily) ROF and purchased every single item available to support the developers in continuing the project. After 38 years of professional aviation flying, ROF is STILL the most realistic sim I've flown.

I'm too old and lazy to dig through all the info available so I'll ask a few questions of the intelligentsia:

What is "really" ready to be purchased TODAY.
Is BOM an upgrade to BOS or vice versa.
What SHOULD be purchased first.

Thx

Well here's the info on what can be flown when http://il2sturmovik.com/battle-of-moscow/

Not an upgrade, more like pacific fighters, can be standalone or combined.

So you don't have to buy one or the other first, however if you want to fly something today, get BoS first.

Thanks for the info but I'm still not clear as to what is available and finished RIGHT NOW.

Are BOS/BOM created by the same developers? Are either one of them a complete, playable flight sim RIGHT NOW.

Is BOS a finished product and BOM an upgrade/standalone or are they being developed at the same time?

Thanks

P.S. I flew an EMS helicopter for Carolina Air Care in Chapel Hill for 11 years and feel like I flew over every bit of the state but I can't say I heard of your location-what part of the state is it?

IL2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad and IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Moscow are from the same developer (1CGS).

IL2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is available now.
http://il2sturmovik.com/about/

Other folks on here can tell you whether or not it is a finished product. I don't own the game, but it appears to me that development continues.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Moscow is still in "Pre-Order".
http://il2sturmovik.com/battle-of-moscow/

My understanding is that they are intended to be able to stand alone from one another, but that they also can be combined.

Are these the folks that created Rise Of Flight? If it is I think I'll give it a try as ROF is the most realistic sim I've flown-well, that excludes a couple sims I've flown that cost 21 million dollars but that's not really fair! ;-)

Yes, the same developers.

For now you can buy and play BoS.

And if you pre-order BoM you can play with the BoM planes already completed: i-16, Mc-202, P-40, Bf 109 E-7 in BoS map.

Latter you can do the inverse, use BoS planes in BoM map - although will be a bit of "what if", as these planes are after Battle of Moscow development... But, who care, already are that "Fw 190 over Stalingrad". smile

Purchase BoS first.. Although BoM can be run as a standalone product when it is released most folks will more than likely win=d up using it as a merged sim with BoS much like what happened with PF and FB..

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

looks like others filled in here so, I'll answer the other question, if you flew out of chapel hill there's a pretty good chance you flew over it. East of Creedmoor, West of Franklinton on 56, south of Oxford on 96. It's for the most part where nc 96 and 56 intersect. Depending on how long ago it was you were here the only thing you might have spied from the air is a few stils hidden in the woods

Stills-lol!

I was there from 1986 when I started the program, to 1997 when I moved to become an Instructor Pilot/Check Airman for the company I just retired from!

I remember Franklinton, Bunn, Wake Forest, Butner-heck I even landed in Lizard Lick but that's about it in your area. That was Duke Life Flights area so we didn't do too many scene flights in that neighborhood. Used to spend A LOT of time fishing Falls Lake.

Copterdrvr - If you've just picked up BOS there's a couple of links you may find interesting https://www.youtube.com/user/RequiemBoS and https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-uSpZROuEd3WV9zRFRwMDJVWGc/view the tutorial library has an AC familiarizations sub section with all the performance stats of the AC included in BOS

If you enjoyed flight in ROF, you should enjoy BOS/BOM, as this new IL-2 series is based on the ROF game engine. Its a decent game engine, that will continue to improve, but personally I would have preferred IMHO the more capable in many respects DX9/10 COD game engine from the original IL-2/COD developers.

I'm sure it would have been completely unremarkable in the air then, have a Franklinton address but it's still in Granville county. When I fish Falls I usually just go over to the Beaver Dam section, much quieter being electric only in that part. Use to live in Chapel Hill myself. Have to go cash in my flight lesson ticket soon anyway, so maybe I'll get a chance to fly over it here shortly haha.

Thanks for the info and links guys-I'll check them out.

Funny thing-I spent probably 80% of my time fishing Beaver Dam. No traffic and lots of big fish! When I fished there they didn't even have a boat ramp of ANY kind and apparently most folks were too lazy to carry their bass buggies down to the shoreline to launch.

Wow-these folks are masters and I hope they've been compensated somehow for their work.

Both links feature work quality that ANY software developer would be proud to have produced.

beercheers

I've always been kind of a "lite" approach guy when it comes to flight sims - easy engine management etc. It was the Tutorial Library that made me decide to take it to a higher level. Chuck Owl also has guides for DCS modules and for Cliffs Of Dover - guy is amazing

Chuck's guides are absolutely awesome. I am heavy into DCS now, and find them a great benefit for learning some of the aircraft. The guy puts out some incredible work!

You are damn right. RoF is brilliant for anyone who can "feel" what is right or wrong smile

Most propably you will appreciate BoS as well, as the same ingenious FM guy is in charge.
