Don't always do 'wall of death' turns either. You can do climbing turns amazingly well in a Pup. Simply apply 20-40 degrees of bank and a bit of rudder to keep it smooth. Engine full on and you will climb while turning inside most of the Albatros' antics.
This can gain you height and energy while all the world's Albatri are burning theirs off. Then you are in control. I've found that also works well for the N28C-1

Quick question Do I need to enter my pilot info in the link on page 1 before we start? Or is that just for reporting in after we get going? It's close fellas - very much looking forward to this

Holy Schnicky! With that mount you can give the words "going down in flames" a totally new meaning! Great job, Lou - if only Trenchard won't see our skins too soon...

Hehe! I love it, Hellshade!maxpeck, reporting in is like voting in the US, do it as early and as often as you like! MeneMene, welcome aboard! You'll be on the front page in a minute, and the survey a bit later! Everyone, remember to advance forward two days after every mission, you want that Camel in a reasonable amount of time, right?
The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

Camel? Oh dear - I have never practised flying the Sopwith Camel! But then, the boys at No. 46 Sqdn also hadn't - until the new mount was given to them. I guess some careful practising should be recommended (except for flyers like Lou, or the cute beagle - some people seem to live in their Camels...).

Folks, I am REALLY going to miss being in this challenge and since I will be without data and wifi service for a week, I will be itching to know how everyone is doing. I would love to see all those skins lined up on the runway. What a "Gauguin" colorful lot that would be! I look forward to occasional opportunities to catch up. It will be the first challenge I have ever missed and it is especially dissatisfying to know that I won't be able to fly a Pup!

Mission 1 20th October 1917 Patrol Enemy Lines I followed McLeod into a blue sky with occasional cloud. It took nearly half an hour to climb to 11000 ft wherein we turned for the enemy lines. My first look at the front showed out troops under a barrage of artillery! The poor bastards. After crossing the lines I noticed a formation of aircraft heading Westward but McLeod and the rest ignored them. Must be friendlies I guessed. We followed our assigned patrol lines for 20 minutes when all of a sudden McLeod started to throw his aircraft about. Enemy? A formation of 5 enemy machined suddenly crossed over us and then proceeded to peel down into us one by one. An enemy single seater came down at me and the suddenly turned and tried to climb right in front of me! I managed to close in and sent numerous rounds into the cockpit area. I saw the pilot suddenly arch backwards and the machine went into a violent spin. I watched it go followed by Gould-Lee. Trying to find someone to form up on I notice another group of planes diving on a loner. It's a Pup. I head for them and the next thing I know is that a group of Pfalz fighters have joined the fray. I have to leave the lone plane to fend for itself as I am too attacked. I get into a turning fight and score some hits. As I'm closing once again my struts are shattered as an enemy Albatros sneaks up on me and lets me have it. God knows how I'm not hit! My rudder is next to useless and my ailerons only just work. With the sun at my back I dive for the nearest airfield. Just over our lines the Albatros tried to dive on me but smashes into the ground instead! Another Albatros tried to get me but I'm too low and he turns away. I'm desperate to get down now. I come in slowly blipping all the way. I try to keep the machine straight but the lack of controls means I'm crabbing in sideways. I hit the ground and drag a wing but the plane doesn't flip. I'm surprised! Right above me I see a Pup get shot down and crash into the runway. I don't know who it is. I'm distraught, and shaking like a leaf. I put in for three and have one confirmed (the one that Gould-Lee) followed down. What an initiation to the front. How can I survive if this is how the patrols are going to be?
Rabbits, break right and climb.

In stark contrast to the above post... Mission 1 20th October 1917 Escort Recon Aircraft We take to the skies, slowly climb to 7500 ft and wait for the recon aircraft. And wait.... And wait..... After 25 minutes of circling, the flight leader gives up and signals us to return to base. All land safely.
