I was flying some missions in the Albatross D II, which was very enjoyable, but i was unable to ascertain whether or not it has a fuel mixture control. I know it doesn't in Rise of Flight, and i thought i remembered seeing a list of which planes had which engine controls but I couldn't find such a list, so I may just be remembering the one from RoF. :P I tried google but was unable to find the information I was looking for. :P

In any event, does anyone know where such a list exists? Or failing that, at least if the Albatross D II needs any engine-management beyond throttle?

Seems like I remember JFM stating that the Albatros planes didn't have fuel mixture controls.

WOFF does model fuel mixture in the Albatros aircraft.
JFM, did state that this is historically incorrect and that they did not have pilot controlled fuel mixture.

There is a check box in the workshop settings for enabling and disabling auto fuel mixture.

Here is an old discussion with some familiar names on another forum.

Sweet, thanks! I wish my joystick had another throttle control for mixture. :P But I may just switch it to auto for the albatross.

IIRC, Greybeard and Dan san Abbot at The Aerodrome Forum had a pair of long threads about Albatri and their engine controls a few years back.

I'm not sure if the early Merc D.III's had a barometric controlled throttle governor to keep the engine power lower at sea-level and up to 6000' feet. What I could gather was it consisted of a limit to the opening of full throttle below a certain indicated altitude to keep the engine from over-compressing and suffering detonation because of low octane fuel. The discussion also mentioned that the Merc carburetors didn't need to have a manually trimmed fuel mixture. ( also IIRC..)

(..this might apply more to the later Mercedes D.IIIa and D.IIau, so I'm assuming the Alb D.II wasn't using this engine control scheme.

The Albatros D.I and D.II, which were developed and built at the same time (and not one after the other)
both flew with different engines, from what I read.

Seems the Albatros D.I had the Benz Bz III with 150 PS (built by Benz & Cie Rheinische Automobil- und Motorenfabrik AG),
while the Albatros D.II had the Mercedes D.III engine with 160 PS (built by the Daimler Motoren-Gesellschaft).

WIKIPEDIA - Mercedes D.III engine

WIKIPEDIA - Benz Bz III engine

The DAIMLER MOTOREN-GESELLSCHAFT also built trucks like this one.

Wikipedia strikes again, Olham! I've never seen an Alb D.I with any engine other than a Mercedes D.III. But I'll through my archives and see if I can find one.

Jim, it said so under "Albatros D.I" - here is the German page:

WIKIPEDIA - Albatros D.I

Maybe I should have asked you first...

I know it says that, but it's wrong. Every photo of an Alb D.I I have or have seen in which you can see the engine reveals that engine was a Mercedes.

In fact, Anthony Fokker claimed Albatros "exert[ed] the utmost pressure in Berlin headquarters" to monopolize the Mercedes engine for their Albatros. He did get some for his Fokker D.IV, but according to Peter Grosz, by October 1917 about 700 Mercedes engines had been allocated for Albatros construction.

Well Olham's wiki link does mention that they were both used. I'm guessing the Benz engine was an alternate choice, as the Albatros C.III as well had alternately the Benz 190 ps engine available.

Google translate refuses to translate to English that Wiki page.

Great, when you are absolutely certain, Jim - yeah, the internet can lay out many dubious tracks...
