I know Olham explained how to do this in a previous thread, but I can't find that thread now that I need it. Could somebody give me a quick explanation on how to do that? Thanks.

Okay.
Take a Picture of a Pilot, you don't use, open it.
Open the Picture you want, then crtl+c, go to the original Picture again, crtl+v, make a Layer of it.
Then you can resize and modify. When you're ready, merge everything and save it a .bmp
Make sure, that the Format is a "raw" bmp, without additional Color-Codes and such embedded - WOFF can't read that.

Here are some of mine - all made using photos of my younger days. Some are hilarious,
but it's fun seeing them in your log; you'll see! Good luck!

Hey, one more question. Does it have to be a simple .bmp file or the 24-bit variety that the skins are saved under?

Pretty sure it has to be an 8 bit image

Ok, I exported the image from GIMP as a .bmp but I can't get it to display when I want to choose a pilot picture. Help please.

It looks like the pilot pictures in WOFF are saved as 24-bit .bmps and mine is a 8-bit .bmp. When I'm trying to export the .xcf file into a .bmp it isn't giving me the option to save as a 24-bit .bmp. Does anybody have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Banjoman

I had the same problem - GIMP does not give you the option of saving as an 8 bit BMP

I opened the image in Irfanview and resaved as a BMP - that solved the problem for me

Banjoman, you could also open your BMP in M$ Paint and do a "save as". I think it gives you the option to save as 8-bit BMP when you save.

If anyone finds all this work too hard or doesn't see through at all, I offer you to make you 1 - 3 pilot photos.

Just send me a PM with 2 - 4 personal photos of you in a suitable age (20 - 30) for a WW1 pilot,
and tell me which nationalities you would like to fly.

Scanners are cheap these days, I think - maybe you can get one?

If you take a picture of the picture with a cell phone, the quality will probably be good enough, these pilot pictures are tiny!

You guys should be between 20 and 30 on the photos - those pilots were quite young.

Olham, that's a very generous offer. I had so much hair back then that I don't know if it would fit in the photo. biggrin

The junk drawer hunt yielded some old pics and a few chuckles.
I'm in very few, of course I was the cameraman with my cheap kodak 110 .

Selfies weren't the craze back then and still ain't for me. Most have small heads, not like a head filling the pic. Except for one with me holding up a fish and making a "fish-face".... rofl

Does this one look too Old for a pilot?
