From the video intro:

"In the summer of 1949 a battle for the free world raged over the skies of England.

Over the years many PC flight simulators have tried to capture what it was like to be in the battle.
In 2008, the developers of the acclaimed IL-2 Sturmovik series begin work on IL-2: Cliffs of Dover -
a brand new combat flight simulator.
Centered on the Battle of Britain it promises unparalleled realism and historical accuracy.

In 2011, commercial pressures win over the wishes of the developers and IL-2: Cliffs of Dover
is released in an unfinished state. The user community becomes splintered.

In 2012 a small group of talented software and aviation enthusiasts set about "modding" the code
to repair and address the issues. They call themselves "Team Fusion".

Today, thanks to their efforts, IL-2: Cliffs of Dover has moved closer to becoming the simulation
the original developers hoped it would be. Team Fusion continues it's work.

In this production, with very few exceptions, every aircraft was flown by a member of the Air Combat Group.
This is our film for the user community.

Past, Present and Future."

After flying over the 'Cliffs of Dover' myself today, my wingman pointed this brilliantly-made video out to me.
After watching it, I recommend it you all - what a well made sim & history film! Enjoy!

Yeah, why not occasionally fly WW2 - but beware: the closing speed on your opponent
will be so much faster, the time for aiming and shooting much shorter!

I like flying CloD sometimes and I find nothing wrong with it - but I still feel
so much more immersed in WOFF's WW1 air combat single player campaigns.

I bought it for like, five bucks last year. I haven't put in too much time due to the lack of a robust single player campaign, but it seems that what team fusion has been doing is mighty impressive! To think how far the once mighty IL2 line has fallen what with the original CLoD release and the Battle of Stalingrad debacle...

This

Like you said - what Team Fusion have managed to do with that CF of a game is nothing short of outstanding

And yes - I am sad at how far the mighty have fallen sigh

Been tempted to buy it....Already have IL2 1946 and BoB II for WWII installed.

I remember it being a HUGE CFM when it was first released, but have heard nothing but Praise for what Team Fusion has done with it. I can't fly MP and am not sure what the SP campaign is like.

I guess we all don't have the FAINTEST idea of how much work the building of air combat sims
like "IL-2: Cliffs of Dover" or "Wings Over Flanders Fields" really is.
I would bet, such sims take years to build, and that is not profitable work in all the time
BEFORE the sim can finally be sold. And then the makers still have to be so lucky, that it
finds enough buyers.
I do not know the background for Oleg Maddox "failure" well enough, but from what I've read,
they would have simply needed more time to finish "IL-2: Cliffs of Dover" so, that it was
fully functional as they had planned.
But in business, time is money. And when the investors say "enough is enough - we must release
NOW!" - then the poor builders have to release a product they are not yet happy with, or
which may even be full of faults yet.

A shame that this happened to a crew so good.

This makes me understand why the small OBD Team never wanted to be dependant from any
money lenders, bankers and businessmen.
They just wanted to keep FULL control over their product.
What courage, what devotion, what a long breath you need for such a project!
And what a nice baby WOFF has become!

Maybe the other way - with bankers aiming for big world-wide markets - could have made them all
rich of money. Or it might have broken their backs.
Now they are rich of their own pride about what they built; and rich of the overall admiration
and great critics they received. And who knows - maybe their way is only slower, and the reward
will also come in moneywise. I wish them all of this success - they definitely deserved it!

So you guys that have flown this sim, can you tell me anything about the single player campaign system. I did some preliminary checking out on the internet and I found that there are modded single player campaigns. Does the Team Fusion work come with a single player campaign?

Sorry, Banjo, I do not know about that - I only started flying CloD again, but on an online server.

CLOD is a text book example of a poorly managed project. They spent years making the sim, and when the publisher finally ran out of patience for lack of progress, the completely unfinished POS they had in their hands was then pushed out of the door to unlucky customers. The terrible reception CLOD got in 2011 was totally deserved.

I'm not sure all the time in the world would have made CLOD much better under such awful project management. In this case, I place the blame on the developers. No investor is going to wait for decades for a project to reach completion. And CLOD was apparently going nowhere.

Anyway, what the Team Fusion modders have done to CLOD is amazing indeed. It's now no longer a broken freak of a flight simulator, but probably the best and most modern WW2 flight sim experience currently available on the market.

It does come with a rudimentary campaign system. However, I think there are plans to develop this further.

There are excellent single player campaigns available for CLOD from a company called Desastersoft. They are compatible with the work of Team Fusion.

Ah, I see - it might have been a bit like with painters - they know how to create an artful painting,
but they often know nothing about selling their art, about shedules, exhibitons, and making some money with it.
Without a good gallerist, many of them would probably starve, and the public would never see,
what they could have done.
Guess a great sim needs both, creative developers AND a very good management.

When I first got my copy of MS CFS3, the first mod I downloaded for it was the BoB patch. Which was a hell of a lot more fun compared to the normal CFS3 scenario of fly for hours as an Allied squad across the North Sea and get your hinder pasted over the Netherlands by Ubered me109's.

My favorite part of BoB was flying Hurricanes against massive HE.111 bomber streams with Bf110 escorts.

OK sorry to get off topic. blush Yeah Cliffs of Dover always looked like a great sim, too bad about the botch of the release.

Did He-111 formations really break up like that when they came under attack? It would seem that staying together would concentrate their firepower. The German two-seaters in WOFF know about that.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

Well - don't expect anything up the incredibly immersive campaign system in WOFF

But the TF Mod does fix the stock campaigns so they are a lot more believable (not like a Hollywood movie)

And there are a number of excellent player made SP Campaigns available as separate downloads from the TF Forum

I would say if you can pick up CLOD cheap, and love the idea of flying Spits, Hurris and 109s it is definitely worth a look
Any they sound beautiful winkngrin

It looks absolutely gorgeous and flys really well now

I had a period of about 6 months flying TF Modded CLOD, and loved it

I've just convinced myself - now I am definitely going to reinstall it smile2

Thanks Maxpeck, you can get it from STEAM for $10. That's cheap enough to give it a whirl.

Good stuff Banjoman

Just remembered one VERY important thing

After you have installed CLOD via Steam, move the entire directory out of Steam Apps folder to somewhere else on your hard drive (I used to put mine on the top level of the C drive) BEFORE applying the TF Mod
I had nightmares trying to get the TF mod to work the first time I tried it
Seems that for some people it just did not like being in the steam folder!

You have any problems getting TF Mod to work give me a shout and I will try to help salute
