I remember my Dad complaining about the book Dr. Spock wrote about parenting. These are really creepy.

My dads leather belt worked wonder`s for discipline for both me and my brother.
But after a certain age that pain could be endured easily and the battle shifted
from corporal punishment to, Your grounded and will sit on you instead. Worked
wonders. Respect was earned and my son has learned the same lessons. Hopefully
will move forward with his kids.

Whippings never worked on me - I'd take the punishment as part of the price of doing what I wanted to. Mom's technique was the best: take a hot bath and then the belt. But it was reserved for felonies.

Never had to spank my son, other than the "safety slap" as a toddler when he was about to grab a flame or something. He just didn't need it; a stern look and some growls were all it took.

Yup, my dad's belt worked well in my case too. I cried not because of the pain but more because my feelings were hurt.

Sad to think that parents now will go to jail for using a belt for discipline. When exactly did our society enter the "wuss" stage?

Pretty much the same for me. No matter how bad the beating I took it just deepened my resolve to do what I darn well pleased. After plenty of tenderizing from my father I took the belt away from my Mom when I was about twelve and told her she was wasting her time. It didn't hurt anymore. Now I would yelp mightily at just the thought of getting hit with a belt.
