Whippings never worked on me - I'd take the punishment as part of the price of doing what I wanted to. Mom's technique was the best: take a hot bath and then the belt. But it was reserved for felonies.
Never had to spank my son, other than the "safety slap" as a toddler when he was about to grab a flame or something. He just didn't need it; a stern look and some growls were all it took.

My dads leather belt worked wonder`s for discipline for both me and my brother.
Yup, my dad's belt worked well in my case too. I cried not because of the pain but more because my feelings were hurt. Sad to think that parents now will go to jail for using a belt for discipline. When exactly did our society enter the "wuss" stage?

Never had to spank my son, other than the "safety slap" as a toddler when he was about to grab a flame or something. He just didn't need it; a stern look and some growls were all it took. Pretty much the same for me. No matter how bad the beating I took it just deepened my resolve to do what I darn well pleased. After plenty of tenderizing from my father I took the belt away from my Mom when I was about twelve and told her she was wasting her time. It didn't hurt anymore. Now I would yelp mightily at just the thought of getting hit with a belt. Wheels
