Some great propositions from you guys! So far, the Museum of Aviation is on the list, the Coca-Cola Museum (just for the heck of it!), the Quick Shot shooting range or Stoddard's Range and Guns, the Barber Motorsport and Ft. Benning. Of course, I've also marked a couple pubs you guys talked about. If I have some times left, the Fernbank Museum, the Georgia Peach and the Mighty 8th are on the to-do list too. Amicalola sounds great too, as well as the Red Top Mountain. Gosh, I won't have time enough!!

And yeah, if I hear any banjo, I'll run away. I can't do pig squeals very well, might get me in more troubles than I want to... biggrin

Wanted to check out a Braves game too on any evening, but it seems like the season is closed, as per their official calendar.

Hmm, I wonder if I could find some Ford Mustang to rent for a couple days... exitstageleft

Shouldn't be a problem. I know Avis, Budget etc all rent them, convertibles or coupe, imagine someplace like Atlanta is more likely to have them on short notice. More out of the way locations may need to reserve farther ahead of time.

Um, folks, let's remember we're talking American distances, which don't seem like much but are a different kettle of fish to a European.

For example, a trip to Barber's outside of Birmingham from Atlanta (figuring he's staying in Marietta) isn't much shorter than a trip from Brussels to Paris.

Let's not put him on the road for two and a half hours one way to see something.

That pretty much puts the difference in distances in perspective.

It would give Corktip an idea the size of North America.

Once had relatives from Scotland come over and they wanted to go to Toronto. At that time it was a least a 4 1/2 hour drive one way. Didn't go to Toronto.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Yup indeed, Avis and Budget got some pretty decent offers for the whole week-end. I may pull the trigger on this one. I know, it's a bit cheesy, but come on, I've got to spend 8 days there, I may as well indulge myself a little bit! driving

The Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins is great. You'll like it. I volunteered and worked there when I was in high school. If you're going to be in the middle Georgia area, here are a few other cool things to do:

Macon:
Georgia Music Hall of Fame (Lots of famous artists are from Georgia)
Cannonball House (Named for getting hit with a cannonball during the war)
Ocmulgee National Monument
Some good restaurants are Downtown Grill and Nu-Way Wieners. If you only get to eat at one, go to Nu-Way. Awesome chili dogs.

Warner Robins area:
Lane Peaches, which was already mentioned.
Yoder's Deitsch Haus near Montezuma. Mennonite restaurant with some of the best home cooking I've ever had.
Andersonville National Historic Site - Site of the Confederate POW camp. Very sobering place, and they have an excellent museum.

Going back up to Atlanta, here are some other things to do/visit in the area that weren't mentioned:
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield
High Museum of Art
Little Five Points
Virginia-Highland
Piedmont Park (It was designed by the same landscape architect that designed NYC's Central Park)
I highly recommend taking a short drive to Madison, GA. It still retains many of its antebellum homes due to Sherman sparing the town from the torch during his march to the sea.

^ One of our favorites. A nice walk to the old graveyard checking out the houses, getting a root beer at the drug store. It's your time machine to Mayberry, very nice.

In July went spent a morning and early afternoon in Helen (N. Georgia Mountains). We left Tucker (Atlanta) before sunrise, ate at Cracker Barrel along the way, arrived in Helen about an hour before the shops opened. We left around 1PM and the traffic to get into Helen was backed up for at least a mile, so I'd get there early.

LOL Ironic isn't it that a tiny town with a tiny population would have such bad traffic going into it?

Can you say tourist trap?

The problem is that Helen, like most of the mountain towns, is in a valley between the mountains and that there is only a single road. So a two lane single road on winding way through the mountains will create a traffic problem even without a high volume.

Actually it is a fun place to visit and spend the day relaxing. A bit touristy, but it is that because it is an interesting place to go.

Man I love Helen, we went on a budget with each choosing a sub-$10.00 souvenir. You can probably guess mine...

Seriously, check out the glass shop if you go, very cool!

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Helen. There are some nice cabins north of town.

Our trip to Helen had an added bonus, there was a Corvette convention in town and 'Vettes were everywhere!

I have more of a fat tooth (buttery bread) than a sweet tooth, but I still hit the fudge place pretty hard (Hansel & Gretel). Neat that you can watch them make it, also the owner wrote the "Candy Making for Dummies" book. You do a lot of walking though, so you can splurge a little.

Pics are big so I'll link...
