The almost universal concensus of the youtube comments is "this is a great book, I hope the show doesn't suck, but geez, it looks like it's gonna suck".

Didn't they had that mini-series Ascension last year or year before last?
I tried to watch it and I had high expectations of it and right from the beginning of the very first episode it turned into a murder hunt with cliche suspects.
There was no need for the sci-fi angle or the subplot of last survivors of the human race on a self sufficient spaceship traveling the universe part.

I'm glad I'm not in charge of running SyFy because I would quickly realize that it's impossible to please everyone.
People complain about wrestling and reality shows on SyFy and when SyFy finally produces some actual scifi people still complain.
I bet that pc game developers feel the same way!

Ascension ended with a bang, very scifi. They just took a long route to get there. And then just leaving it with no further show/mini-series made it ultimately a waste of time.
However, SyFy has turned it up in the last year or so and is redeeming itself very well. Defiance took some chances and had their best season. Dark Matter is really good and Killjoys was even better than that. Z Nation starts up again soon, a humorous zombie apocalypse show with some good storytelling. They have a few mini-series in the works that sound good. They've come a long way from Wrasslin...which they bumped off of the Friday night slot now.
Such a great book, if fact I just read it again a few months ago.
No way they can stay true to the books story, to big a timeline IMO.
I hope it doesn't suck.

Look for me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tic Toc...or anywhere you may frequent, besides SimHq, on the Global Scam Net. Aka, the internet. I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

I fear people unfamiliar with the book will blast it because it really has been used as source material for so much SF in the last 40 years that it's not going to be fresh.
Who Karellen and his people are, why they came, what they know, and how things pan out...it was great golden age SF but I fear it will only please us purists. Unless they butcher it, then it will please no one.

So just looking at the cover pic for the video it looks like creative liberties have been taken. Which is fine, I don't think the book would translate well into into a movies or mini-series as-is.
Actually I just watched it, looks like they took the theme of the book but added in the trope of relationship tension with pretty girls. So edgy.
Might be interesting to watch -- might be very interesting if they change the ending from the book. Might be interesting if its a bit of dramatic commentary of human reactions to a first contact event. We'll see.

Judging by the shots of the children acting strange it's not going to differ too much. Of course, the kids acted strangely in a different way in the book, but I'm not sure it would come across visually as well so instead we get this.

Just found out about this miniseries. I haven't read the book, and now i want to read it, but i'm doubtfull if that would be a good idea. It might be better to read it after seeing the miniseries.

Good idea. How many films or miniseries have you seen where it was superior to the book?
