Hi guys,
I may have to spent 8 days in Atlanta for work in a couple weeks, and wanted to know if there's anything I should be looking for in Georgia? I'll have a rental car, and at least two days on my own. I've already found the Museum of Aviation, but that's about it for now.
Any ideas?

Coca-Cola museum, go to a Braves game, Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles, the Cyclorama, the MLK memorial, there's some great art museums as well.

If you want to see some of America rather than just the cities, take Route 19 North to Lake Lanier. And if you follow it about another half an hour north you will find Dahloniga. Dahloniga was the site of the first big gold discovery in the US. Quaint little town. Just a couple miles north of it is the US Army Ranger mountain training site. Lots of nice places in the North h Georgia mountains.
Better than doing the city tourist stuff.

Great advise OG! That's the kind of stuff I'm gonna dig. And since I'm in the US, I think I'll have a look for a great shooting range and check if I can try something "exotic".

Stone Mountain, and if you have the time I'd say head to Savannah (about a 3 hour drive) and tour the antebellum district on foot. Maybe hit the bars on River Street, too; we used to go to one called Wet Willy's that made the best Everclear daiquiris. And Fort Stewart is right near Savannah, I haven't been there in many years but the museum on post was interesting.

If you are looking for a military museum, Ft Benning is much better and closer. Not only a better museum, but you can get on post and go watch the airborne training; the 250 foot towers are very interesting to watch. Just make sure that you are there on a day with relatively good weather and Monday - Friday. If you do head over to Savannah, make sure you go to the Mighty Eighth museum. It is all about the Eigth Airforce WW2. Absolutely a top notch place. Here is some info plus the link has other things to see in Georgia. http://roadsidegeorgia.com/site/mightyeighth.html

LOL Only because most of my exploits and misadventures there are still hidden behind an alcoholic haze. Same goes for Glennville and Statesboro. I do remember a friend and I throwing some college puke in a nasty, green swimming pool at a keg party in Statesboro, though. LOL

If you have just a little time, Fernbank Museum is seriously under-rated for something to see. As a natural history museum it's very well put together and easy to look at all the stuff. Big ol' Dinosaur fossils, including a Argentinosaurus being chased by a Giganotosaurus in the main lobby. http://www.fernbankmuseum.org/My son and I were regular visitors when we lived in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Do you have a 'do not go' app to show you where the unsavourable areas are?
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

About all I remember is a huge water tower where the top was shaped and painted to look like a Georgia Peach. From one direction, you don't see the leaf on it. I'll let your imagination fill in what it looked like from that angle. LOL

If it's outside of Downtown and inside of the perimeter (I-285) it's probably a no-go area for a white guy from Canada on foot. Seriously, though, Atlanta isn't Baltimore or Detroit. Trust your instincts and look around before getting out of the car, which is true for every large city in the world.
