I have only just got back into WOFF after a year or so absence due to a very hectic
work schedule...

I started by getting the new Expansion 2.0 + all patched to the latest version.

My first combat mission in the campaign was in a Halb II and I came up against a Nieup 17.
I was in a twisting and turning dogfight for the best part of 20+ mins and despite what
I thought would be landing enough hits to send him down, he continued to fly on home
unmolested after I ran out of ammunition.

I see in the after mission report that I only landed 25 hits out of 400+ rounds fired...
I am either extremely rusty after my long absence from the game, or the game has just
become more realistic and therefore harder... Btw, I try to fly with as much realism as
I can (using camera angles to find enemies aside)...

I know that I am in an inferior aircraft for the time being so I cannot expect too much in
terms of racking up the kills from the get go.

Good to be back in the cockpit, although I am having to learn to ride the bike all over again. thumbsup

Many thanks gents...

Regarding the user mods, I did have a look although are there any must haves that you
would recommend...?

I saw that one or two graphic mods were already included in the new updates so that
helps.

Cheers. thumbsup

Well, at the risk of blowing my own horn I would recommend the "User files backup utility" and the "JSGME mod enabler" as two must haves.
The rest would be something for you to evaluate for yourself as to your needs. There a many great ones.

Best Regards;

If Robert is going to blow his horn, then I'm going to blow mine. biggrin Seriously, I created a couple of mods that reduce the number of HAs in the game if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Welcome back, SSEIPER!
Twentyfive hits sounds rather realistic to me - I don't think that the real combatants
did land more hits on their opponents. When none of those hits struck something vital,
the opponent might still get away.

Oh, and Lou is right - wasn't there this rule about a return after longer absence?
That the guy had to buy drinks like a newbie?

Many thanks guys!

Squeezed in some more flying time last night and started a career
with Jasta 22.

So far after 5 missions I have downed two aircraft and a observation balloon (one aircraft was not
confirmed even though I brought them both down within a very short distance of my home airfield).

I also have another aircraft pending approval of the claim, fingers crossed.

On my 3rd mission I accidentally clipped a friendly despite being in AUTOPILOT mode whilst circling to land and he unfortunately did not survive the crash... I gather that as I was the survivor I automatically get
the blame as I was given a warning! What the?, the moron hit me!!!

One thing I wanted to ask, are the majority of pilots historically correct for each squadron / Jasta...?

I was sure Josef Carl Peter Jacobs was C/O when I started, although I don't see him listed on the pilots board
anymore, nor can I recall any mention of him being killed... Strange!

Definitely noticing the improvements and hope to uncover more as I spend more time in-game.

Cheers,

cheers cheers

PS... I gather it is still impossible to save a career...? I.E. If you die, you are dead for good...?

Yes, they appear and leave squadrons/Staffeln at the hjistorical dates.

Josef Jacobs was in Jasta 22 until 2 August 1917;
then he became the C/O of Jasta 7.

Thanks for the answers Olham, much appreciated... thumbsup

Josef Jacobs has disappeared from the pilots list and I am
only in November 1916... I can only assume he must of been
killed.

Managed to fly another few missions this morning and sure enough Jacobs was
back in command... A nice little touch having his historical absence due
to illness in the game.

Having said that, the very next mission we went balloon busting and once we
had the O/B in flames, a certain Herr Jacobs legged it for home in his faster
Albatross leaving both myself and a rookie eating his dust and basically left
at the mercy of an wandering enemies.

Thankfully we made it home, but no thanks to that selfish SOB, Jacobs.

Well, the real Josef Jacobs was quite okay, I think. Here is WIKIPEDIA about Jacobs.

After Hitler came into power, Jacobs became a Major in the Luftwaffe Reserves, although he
refused to join the NSDAP ("Nazi" Party) after being personally asked by Hermann Göring.
Then after refusing to let Göring become a major shareholder in his company, Jacobs moved
his company to the Netherlands, and for a time after the German invasion went into hiding...
