10-15 minutes by foot. 20-30 in summer time because, well, it's summer.
That's the good thing about small cities, pretty much everything is at walking distance.
When you're feeling sad, just remember that somewhere in the world, there's someone pushing a door that says "pull".

Sigh. Today was really a bad traffic day. 1:15 drive to work. Usually around 45-55 minutes Dallas and Houston are probably the worst for traffic in the entire State!

I drive, because Raleigh hates cyclists, there are no shoulders for most of the route, and I don't want to die.
For sure. I rode home from Raleigh once last Fall. Not a great town for bikes. I eventually went thru Umstead Park and pieced together a bunch of greenways to the Tobacco Trail. Took forever. When I worked at UNC, I rode my bike almost every day for years, usually before the sun was up. Really miss that. Where I worked had a locker room and showers, so I was set even in bad or hot weather. If I was feeling lazy, I'ld ride my clapped-out Ninja250, or even take the free bus. But loved the bicycle most. Now I drive to Burlington, about a 30 minute commute. Traffic is not bad that way. At least I can listen to music or podcasts and relax a bit.

Takes me 20-30 mins on average, depending on traffic, for roughly 20 miles. Longest commute I've had in years. Best was when I lived a mile from my office in the late 90s. I always had to drive, though, as I had to go visit customers all over 3 counties and I used my own car for it. The Jedi Master

That's why you have those cool things called "investments". Heh, I wish I had an income good enough from investments whereby I could quit my day job! You have to work at it Managed to retire almost 10 years ago, next summer I'll be 60 Indeed. Retired at 52, five years ago, and I actually make more now than when I was working.

Interesting timing for this thread...
For the last 7 years I lived ~10 miles from work. It usually took 15-20 mins to get to work in the morning, and, with horrible SF Bay Area traffic, could be 20 min-50 min to get home depending on what time I left and how bad traffic was that day.
I just accepted a relocation offer to Irvine, CA, and we siezed the opportunity to move very close to my wife's family in northern San Diego county. Housing is much cheaper than in the Bay Area, it's a nice place to live, and our kids can be close to their grandparents and cousins. It's a place we felt like we'd be happy living for a very long time. The down side: It's about a 50 min drive each way if I choose to drive to work. I've been taking the train, but that amounts to about 90 minutes door to door. I can work for about 45 minutes of that time on the train and shorten my overall day at the office (so far), but I'm not sure how long I'll be able to get away with that.
It's been sucky not getting to see my kids before I leave work in the morning. I'm committed to my current company for 2 years, and then there's the possibility that I can try to find something closer to home. We'll see how it plays out.

The drive/train ride past Pendleton on the way home does offer some nice views, though...

Right at 30 minutes both ways. 2/3rd is country roads, and 1/3 is a four lane highway to the airport.
Adjust time + 10-20 minutes in the winter with snow or ice...lol.

When I first started working I had a 21 mile each way commute from Wick to Scrabster Harbour in the region of about 25 minutes or so, in the winter Jan/Feb/Mar time the direct road could get blocked with snow so you would have to go round the coast road as the salt air there would keep the road open longer but it was around 40 miles going that way. found an interesting article on one of the worst blizzards we had, with up to 22 helicopters running SAR. http://www.aircrew-saltire.org/lib202.htm
