I got my full CH HOTAS and rudder setup a couple weeks ago and have only had a little time to use it, but I really like it so far. I downloaded a good looking profile for DCS A-10C and have started putting my own together for FSX.

One thing I found right away that I didn't pay much attention to when doing research was that the center "detent" on the rudder pedals makes fine corrections and, especially, helicopter flying difficult.

I found a mod online that involves opening up the unit and removing (via dremel) the features molded into the case halves that create the detent.

I wanted to get some feedback from others that have used the pedals for a while. Do you find the detent annoying or do you get used to it? Anyone tried the mod? How hard was it and did it improve the feel?

edit - wanted to do a poll but couldn't find that option anywhere...

Unless you buy a specifically designed rudder pedal for helicopters, e.g. Komodo ProAT all the rudder pedal around have some kind of center detent, even the ones with CAM system (some these come with 2 or more cam, suitable for heli and for fixed wing planes)

But the helicopter "detent'less" pedal make difficult center rudder on fixed wings planes, as the pedal have no auto center (what in real plane is done be wind).

By removing the detent of CH pedal (2 plastic pins) you make then more usable for helicopters (dont expect fine control because the electronics of this product is obsolete USB 1.1 8 bits -256 resolution points, OK for early 2000 games..), but "woobly" for conventional planes, specially in this pedal that use two opposite expansion springs, in the center position one tend to cancel another.

If you find a way to place removable bolt - from external side, bottom of pedals - in the place of this detent's, you can have the better solution for heli and fixed wing planes.

Here the guy add a 3rd spring to help in center the pedal (after remove the detent).

Well, one how-to I read about the mod said that the springs retain enough ability to get the pedals close to center without the detents present.

But that's why I'm posting here. I was curious if anyone had done the mod and can confirm (or debunk) that information.
