Who would start a kickstarter for "IL*2 2015"? I would buy a 2015 version of 1946 for $200 immediately. OK.... $300. But not more Because I wouldn't need to buy any other game anymore in this life BoS is so close (to source code of 1946) and yet so far (to delivered content) Sigh... I would too I've got between $300 and $400 invested in RoF (everything they sell for it), but I only did that after PWCG came out. Prior to PWCG I tried RoF and came to the conclusion "Pretty, but nothing to do" and didn't spend a penny on it initially. The 2015 version of 1946 would have the tools to do it all over again!

Yep, yet the devs will sit there and talk about how accurate it is above all else.
Anyone remember the old Tom Hanks film Big? Where he suddenly became a toy company executive and was being shown the prototype for the next toy, a robot that transformed into a building? He looked at it and asked "What's the fun in that??" He received blank stares from the other execs, then got comments about market studies and projections to which he repeated, "yeah, but what's fun about it?"
We're Tom Hanks when it comes to these sims now.

The Jedi Master True. That part of the movie still applies today. It IS so simple....where is the fun? Since we are throwing back some older movies...do you remember Crazy People with Dudley Moore? Were he is an advertising exec that gets drunk and makes ALL his ad campaigns completely honest? Now...how would that have worked for BoS if it took that approach I wonder? I sure can think of a few honest tag lines for bos...

They're pretty much dead to me. There aren't any that strike the right balance of realism and fun for my tastes. None that aren't 20+ years old that is. IL-2 1946 was the last one that came close in my opinion. I sold most of my flight sim gear for camera gear after being disgusted with BoS and CLOD.
I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

Not WWII, but the Kickstarter for CAP2 is trying to meet exactly this type of flightsim/fun game of old. CAP2 Kickstarter I pledged 70 bucks for CAP2, sadly though I think the hype train started up FAR too late for it to get traction. But if it was green-lit on steam does that mean it stay sin development?

I will not be supporting this.. It looks good.. but Jet sims just aren't my thing.. I wish them success though.. You can't have too may decent developer supported sims in a market that currently has only two... Three is you lower the standard and include WT....
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Well that won't make it. Not with 4 days to go and only 4% of the goal.
It does look nice.

I hope so, because that's the only way they could make it.
I funded Takedown on the premise that he had a lot more funding lined up IF he could demonstrate to the investors there was sufficient interest. KS basically was that proof. Unfortunately, it's obvious at least some, perhaps most, of them pulled out or cut back later and the game struggled to be released in a playable alpha condition. IMO development ended before it reached beta (because many of the features mentioned for KS are still nonexistent, let alone how buggy the ones that do exist are).
What this DOES say though is that woman doing their marketing isn't up to this task because they should've drawn a lot more interest than they have.

IIRC, the CAP2 Kickstarter is just an extra contribution to their budget. Regardless of whether or not they succeed, the plan's always been to follow through. Same thing with the DCS WW2 kickstarter and look what happened with that.
DCS Kickstarter Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable." Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."

Well I'd disagree a bit Johnny. These guys have a lot to show for, whereas whoever that dubious DCS dev was had could show literally speaking nothing despite claiming that he could pull it off even without getting backed.

Regarding the thread topic:
Based on the number of flight hardware peripherals still being offered to PC flight sim enthusiasts, I would have to conclude that flight sims are far from dead. When those guys start existing the business, then we know there is a problem.
