Cool. I have a 20 year old son as well. He is taking me to Iron Maiden on Oct.11. My birthday present.

Wow, it's over 42 years since I saw Iron Maiden live.
It was with their first singer, and they were the support band for Judas Priest.

They must be good at it by now. biggrin

Here's a good song. For those that don't like slow buildups, the guitar solo starts about 5:10

Priest and Maiden together, it had to have been awesome. What album was Priest supporting ?

That would have been ‘British Steel’.

Things were a bit smaller scale in those days. There couldn’t have been more than a thousand there, maybe less. Seem to remember us agreeing that Maiden were better than Priest.
Saw Black Sabbath (with Dio) at the same venue around the same time.

British Steel is my favorite Priest album. I'm very envious of you.

I am going through Godsmack's catalogue. I already like some of the stuff I have heard over the years. I am going album by album. My workout playlist needs some new blood.

Been enjoying an '8-track era' groove, including two of my all-time favorite albums, both released in 1978:

Foreigner's "Double Vision" ("Hot Blooded", "Blue Morning, Blue Day", "Double Vision")

Styx's "Pieces of Eight" ("Sing for the Day", "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)", "Renegade")

++++++++++

Love Has Taken Its Toll by Foreigner

Now, two-handed strategy always works well for me
So I slipped my hands around her waist
I swore it was the right move, feelin' so smooth
Till she backhanded me 'cross my face
==========
Lol.

Next up, "The Grand Illusion" (1977)...

The rusty wire that holds the cork that keeps the anger in
Gives way and suddenly it’s day again
The sun is in the east
Even though the day is done
Two suns in the sunset, hmph
Could be the human race is run

It's still quite amazing to me just how much Foreigner's style changed from the late 70's to the mid 80's. They changed about as radically as Chicago did.

Yeah, lots of 70's Rock (and R&B) bands didn't transition well into the 80's, whereas some original 80's artists were great.

I still have my wife's cassette of Chicago's famed original Greatest Hits (was in her car when we first met) which reminds of the Pensacola surf (or was it Gulf Shores?...old man memory fading somewhat), some moderate drinking on a sandy summer sunset, and wondering how lucky I was going to get that evening (not lucky enough). smile

Due to our meager upbringing, we were never into exchanging expensive gifts, but always a small thing here and there. Which is why I'm hanging out in the late-70's after a little gift she brought home from the grocery store that she thought I'd like (and she was right)...

And I plan to show my appreciation this evening... wink

It's easy to become overwhelmed with great music from the 1970's, just so much of it in a concentrated time.

Great post Mark and that model Smokey and the Bandit Firebird looks great!

I also have that volume I greatest hits of Chicago but on CD, not tape. That's the one with the distinctive cover of the band members on the scaffold trying to paint the side of a building but instead are just freaking out.

Yeah, that's the one...of course I have the CD as well, but can't part with my tapes.
