Here's to the night Mark ! Hope the beers aren't too expensive and lines to bathroom aren't too long at the venue.
As always, Rush didn't disappoint! They only played live for about an hour though, then showed some old music videos on the big screen followed by their last documentary.
A couple of concert highlights, including a fantastic closure...
The booze was dirt cheap and unlike Van Halen I didn't have to stand in line to whiz in a sink (didn't know that's where my line was going, hopefully Lakewood Amphitheatre fixed their lack of bathroom facilities)!
EDIT: There used to be a better R40 Jacob's Ladder on YT I think, but I can't find it. The audio/video sync seems off to me on this one.

MarkG you cant encourage me! I think I love 80s music more now than then.
Me too, man!
Except that, as the Molly Ringwalds (local 80's cover band) point out before they play it, Gary Numan's "Cars" is a 1979 cheat. Still sounds 80's though, so we all let it slide.

So I'm at my kitchen table with the game on in the background (Brady's return to Foxborough) and a tune catches my attention, only a few seconds of beginning of song. Oh man, what is it? If only I could remember the lyrics.
Oh yeah, got it (from 1980)...

I remember "Love Stinks" and "Centerfold", but forgot about this gem.

I saw this when it was a brand new "MTV World Premiere" video. I had a massive crush on the two women. I was a testosterone-fueled 13 year old kid at the time.

Something else I really miss about the 1980's, the musical nerdiness...
I think Rush tops the list with their videos for "Subdivisions", "Distant Early Warning" and the fan-made "Countdown" (which is occasionally posted here), but also the lessor known...

J. Geils was HUGE around here. Their concerts were legendary parties. I always remember this goofy a$$ song they made. It made no sense but was hysterical.

I'd never even heard of Germantown, a suburb of Memphis. I think something is in the Tennessee water, and it's something good!...
Along the way on our first trip to NYC in 2018, leaving Bridgestone Arena in Nashville after a Brad Paisley concert, we walked the crowded streets at midnight. It was surreal, passing so many bars with live bands playing 70's and 80's Rock, like a really good Twilight Zone. Now I'm wondering if Memphis (which we drove through but didn't stop) has a similar nightlife? Maybe on a future road trip we'll check out the famous Beale Street on the way to Nashville.

What does it take to be a man? What does it take to see It's all heart and soul A gentle hand? So easy to want and so hard to give How can you be a man 'Till you see beyond the life you live? Oh, what does it take to be a man?
We can be blind, but a man tries to see It takes tenderness For a man to be what he can be And what does it mean If you're weak or strong? A gentle feelin' Can make it right or make it wrong What does it take to be a man?
The will to give and not receive The strength to say what you believe The heart to feel what others feel inside To see what they can see
A man is somethin' that's real It's not what you are It's what you can feel It can't be too late To look through the hate and see I know that's what a man can be
(Scholz)
Rock could not only inspire young people to be musicians, but could also encourage them to be better people. Well, not always...lol.
Thanks Tom (writer) and Brad (singer) for the positive message, despite any naysayers who believe Rock shouldn't go there.

Heh, I just recently listened to my Boston's Greatest Hits CD so "Amanda" (also on Third Stage) is very fresh on my mind.

I also have Boston's Greatest Hits CD and my biggest disappointment was not including "The Launch" before "Cool the Engines" as you see in the Atlantis video I posted above.
But it gets even better with the short "Amanda"-like reprise immediately following "Cool the Engines"...
At least it seemed that way to me at the time, given my cloud 9 headspace in 1986.

^ "Hitch a Ride" is on my NYC playlist. What a great debut album.
EDIT: I've had "Boston" on just about every available media (8-track, cassette, LP, CD) and I've never heard that 3-second drumstick intro before.

And that's going to do it for me for at least 2 weeks...
Exactly a month ago, on Labor Day, after a series of strokes, we had to take our dog Ralphie (our first pet) to an emergency vet and put him to sleep. He lived 14 years with a bad liver (we got him as a 1 year-old abused rescue) which was several years longer than his expected lifespan. Dam...changing thoughts...

Wife joins me today at being 54 (I'm only 5 weeks older) and just received some fantastic work-related news of advancement and a permanent home office. She just wrapped up month-end closing to start a much needed long vacation...and we are outta here!
<sorry, might be same video but best sound quality>

I'm sorry to hear about your dog Mark. I hope you guys have a great vacation!

Thanks, PM. If only our remaining dog (Suzie...14) can give us at least another year as we get over Ralphie. No plans of doing it again though, we're just not cut out for it.
Vacation ‘fun’ cut short, both itching to get things done around the house and back into running shape (Running playlist on other thread has been awesome). We’ve set some tough end-of-year goals that I’ll post later on the ‘fitness’ thread (with abs pics if she lets me...women can be funny about this stuff).

Still listening to Boston, a non-hit favorite from each of their first 3 albums (don't have any songs after that except a couple on the Greatest Hits CD...meh)...
I believe Third Stage (Sep. 1986) was released only days prior to this recycled pic (older brother purchased CD, I copied to cassette)...
My car was an '87 purchased in '86 (we were reminiscing last night with my parents, mom was co-signer, remembers it being Octoberish '86) and pic was taken when car was brand new (no pinstripes yet). The weather was obviously still warm...wife looks dressed for work (evening grocery store job), probably visiting me first, after college classes.
I remember later wearing out Third Stage as a softer alternative to Appetite for Destruction and Master of Puppets (Rush had gone *too* soft for me at the time). What I would give to see my cassette briefcase in that car and also to have that system again (although cassette [Clarion head unit, IIRC], it was pretty good, with decent amp and speakers). I'm sure that whatever I was listening to then is 95% of what I listen to today.
Anyway, the final song on Third Stage I could relate to, except for the girl's name (much like "Amanda" on same album)...
========== "The nights you came to me A blue jean lady so eager to be free And the wind in your long hair blowing As we stood for the band"
"You and I, we were there to see the dawn Side by side we had love to carry on And I still hear guitars in the air as we sat in the sand" ==========
Lyrically it has Journey “Stone In Love” vibes to me.
Hehe. I need to stop daydreaming about 80’s outdoor Rock festivals and Biloxi/Pensacola/Gulf Shores vacations and go pull more weeds.

Wanted to add that as much as I appreciate YouTube for being able to look back over decades of music, YT sound quality almost never matches CD or even 192 kbps MP3 (my minimum bit-rate).
