If you are into ww2 strategy you need this. Never played it, it's a great game! Check out Africa Korps and Barbossa to Berlin as well.

Got all the WWII CM games, worth every penny.

There are other titles too.
This is what the latest version looks like in comparison.

Boy the hours I spent on Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord! O.O

Great series. Truly great.
I specially like the "We Go" style of playing...

Combat Mission Afrika Korps was my favorite. I was flying a lot back then and that thing on my laptop kept me sane spending hours in hotels and in airports!

To the OP, the new ones, especially Black Sea and Normandy/Italy (modern and WWII) are fantastic!

I keep hoping to get Magnum on the hook again for some Black Sea....he's afraid of my Javelin. smile mycomputer

I know. I played the new ones but demo only. They didn't put all the tanks in the new one as compared to overlord there is about every type. Why don't they have the panzer 3 in the newer Normandy one? Seems like missing a lot of vehicles.

I think the older ones patched up are just as good, they only show squad commanders put that's fine.

I have beyond overlord and afrika korps and looking into barbossa to berlin

GOG has the beyond overlord game for $10

This game can be compared to close combat series material on a strategy level. I have never heard of combat mission in the past, but really a game where playability enjoyment is WAY over graphical look.

Woah! Thought I was in some sort of time warp here. CMBO huh? How turn of the century. Sure it's cheap as dirt but it doesn't have half the bells & whistles of its sequel family - especially the 1 to 1 infantry treatment and it looks so primitive.

I'm interested in trying these out. I've been interested in them ever since seeing all of Magnum's posts about these years past. You said the original is on GOG but I noticed it doesn't appear to be available on their site? I could not find a purchase link.

I'm assuming their latest game is Black Sea?

The nice thing is all the recent ones have fully playable demos and you can spend a good time with the demo before you have to decide to buy.

I bought the original one on GOG a while back, but I can't seem to overcome the graphics after being used to the new ones.

I remember many years ago when this game came out. I can't remember how, but Battlefront had opened up being able to submit your name to be added to the game, just to add a fun touch to those who were following the game before release on the forums. When it was finally released I had all forgotten about submitting my name. After playing this game for quite some time, I was playing one of the campaign missions and came across my name. Was quite neat seeing your name (and I know it was me as my last name is NOT common at all!). I was a 1st Lt from what I can recall. I think I bit it during that particular playthrough!

The link to the GoG version is
http://www.gog.com/game/combat_mission_beyond_overlord

For the first game above link CMBO I really recommend getting replacement textures, sometimes called mods. They make the game a lot better on the eyes. The version on GoG also works on at least win7 the later two CMBB & CMAK suposidly need new exe's that you purchase from battlefront. I still have an XP PC so cannot comment.

But the first game via GoG is worth the price, you can still get many extra scenarios and the quick battle generator will keep you going for ever.
