On Friday I was able to knock off work up in Ottawa long enough for a quick visit to the aviation museum. Thought I'd share these photos...


AEG G.IV -- Dark lozenge pattern, designed for night bombing. Only surviving original specimen of a German twin-engine aircraft of the Great War. The motors are replica, the rest original.


Bristol Fighter -- one of only three surviving airworthy Biffs.


Camel 2F.1 -- naval Camel. This particular ship's Camel, armed with a single Vickers, was built too late to see wartime service, but was flown until 1925.


This specimen, in rough shape, is the only surviving Junkers J1. Doesn't seem to mount armament other than a rear MG.



This Nieuport 12 was built in 1915 and given to Canada by France in 1917. It was taken on tour to raise public support for the war effort. One of only two known to exist, it has been restored to its 1917 condition.


This Airco-built Maurice Farman Shorthorn served as a trainer in Australia. It was acquired at auction in the 1980s.
