Hi Guys,
I need a high end gaming laptop so I can see WOFF in all its glory, as I am away from home far more than I am there.
Requirements, recommendations, thoughts ?

Shredward

We will remember them.

I would recommend a Sager. I've used XoticPC twice and have not had a problem.

Windows 7 instead of 8.

You will want as fast a CPU as possible without regard for double or triple core if you are only after something to run WOFF.

A discrete GPU is a must. Most that are out now will run WOFF. On my laptop, it seems that my CPU slows me down, not the GPU and my laptop is 3.5 years old with a GTX 560M.

An SSD instead of HDD would be best option if you can afford it. I do not know how those small SSD {with the OS} with a large HDD works. I've read someone say that it significantly decreases load times.

Even on my older system you can get acceptable fps and eye candy. Not the best, but I am quite happy with the performance I get. Using the DX9 shaders {even at low-non-existant level} give a significant boost to fps.

Good luck.

rockmedic's advice is pretty spot on. CPU horsepower is what you'll need. Core i3 is considered a good value, but if you can spring for it, get an i5. An i7 is thought to be overkill at this time for gaming since not many of them take advantage of the extra threads available on that CPU, and the price/performance ratio is generally not worth it. This may change in the future, but certainly not the case for WOFF, unless they decide to create their own engine (unlikely).

Besides the GPU advice, I'll add that you should look for something with at least 6GB RAM, 8GB would be better. You can run it on a 4GB system, but more data will have to be read from the disk on the fly which may translate into increased stuttering, slowdowns, etc.

Also I highly recommend going the SSD route. With the falling prices of these units, it doesn't add a significant premium to the overall price as it used to. You'll be glad of this when you see how much faster the missions load. smile
