How well does TrackIR V5 work if you wear glasses?

As I understand it uses reflection to track head movement. Would reflection from lenses or frames confuse it?

If glasses are problem, does the LED Proclip help?

Might be better to ask on the Naturalpoint forum, but probably using the Proclip type option is better.
sometimes I wear reading glasses and TrackiR works fine for me.

I used the proclip for years but it was always held together with tape since it was a month old wink recently bought a delanclip works very well.

I wear glasses and have no problems (TrackIR 4). Here's an old pic of my setup:

A bigger problem for me as a glasses wearer was finding comfortable headphones. The ones in the pic (Audio Technica ATH 700's) are really comfortable for prolonged use, and have excellent sound quality.

I wear glasses when playing WOFF and they have never interfered with the Track IR. The lenses of the glasses do not reflect light back to the sensor.

I wear drug store "cheaters" when I fly and never noticed a TrackIR difference with them on or off. Course I darken the room up as much as possible. And I used the hat clip originally and now have the ProClip.

All things being equal I find the ProClip works much better in all situations and is more more precise and never does the "extreme viewing angle" wonkiness you sometimes get with the hat clip.
Highly reccomended.

I asked here because I figured the answers would be more candid than the manufacturer's site. Plus, WOFF is the only flight sim I play so answers from WOFF users might be more relevant.

I plan to ask on the TrackIR site as well.

No issues with wearing glasses here either. I only get a temporary problem when the bottom of the beer can (I mean Pepsi) is facing the sensor, then it goes wonky, but goes back to normal once I put the can down.

Here's a head tracker without cables, looks a bit industrial though:

I use reading glasses with no problem and I use the hat clip with Track IR 4 hardware.
The only thing you have to be concerned about is making sure that ambient light from your windows or house light bulbs are not directly playing on the Track IR receiver.

I have done some browsing on the TrackIR forums and found that some people do have problems when wearing glasses. Of course they don't say if they have shiny metal frames or uncoated [inexpensive] lens. I am nearly blind without glasses and at my age, I am not going to mess with contacts. However, based on the positive comments here, I am still interested in TrackIR.

Reading the manual, I see that TrackIR recommends dimming the lights in the room. Since my wife's PC is also in the room, this isn't going to happen when she is on the PC. Mostly she uses a laptop while watching TV [multitasking seems to be her strong suit] in another room but she does use the desktop in our PC room frequently.

Q1: what is your experience with a lighted room with the ordinary amount of shiny stuff laying around?

Q2: do I have to clear the room of all reflective items?

Q3: does having the Pro clip with IR LEDs help in any

I am not trying to be difficult. I don't want to spend $150 - $180 on TrackIR and find out I can't really use it. I understand it is a terrific convenience and really want to use it but the price is too much to spend blindly [no pun intended]. So thanks for sharing your experiences with TrackIR.

Ben Cason

* No problem whatsoever using Track IR ( 4 the 5 ) for years on many flight sims while wearing glasses.

* Dimming the lights all the time ( by day with half-closing the shades and at night by having only a small desk lamp on )

* Never tried the Pro Clip which I always looked at as costly and breakable when my hat clip works fine. I have different caps for winter and summer ( moreover I don't always use the earphones, I have a nice sound system to let the engines roar ! )

* No easy solution to suggest regarding your wife interference.

Robert,
Your posting came in while I was typing my last one. It answers some of my concerns.

I will have to work with my room lighting and do some clean-up [my wife will approve of that smile ] remove some shing stuff [i.e., put my camera stuff away]. I'll have to pull the curtains on the window in the daytime, and maybe do something abut the overhead light if it is a problem. I am used to having a small lamp shining down on my keyboard and desktop so that may have to be turned off.

Ben Cason

Good to hear of your success. My wife just asked me to turn around and watch a 787 takeoff video [Boeing & Vietnam Airlines] so she is sympathetic to my interests. After 36 years of marriage, it will work it out.

Had that same problem. Wondering what the heck is wrong with it till I noticed it coincided with the bottom of the diet coke can! Yes, I wear drug store cheaters with the hat clip with no problem.
