Swimming with Sharks: My alarming journey into the world of the bankers (...in the original Dutch version, Dit kan niet waar zijn. ...scary. The author spent two years talking to people working in banking. Analyzing what went wrong that led to the demise of the Lehman Brothers bank in 2008 and subsequent crash of the financial system. What's most worrying, this could've meant the end of civilization as we know it. And what even more worrying*, it could happen again. * yes, more worrying than 'most worrying'!
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Just finished Call to Arms by Joshua Dalzelle, it is book 2 of the Black Fleet trilogy, with the third part expected towards the end of the year. Quite enjoyable space romp and battles played out at relativistic speeds, there are a couple of inconsistencies around the speed of light and detection times at a couple of points, especially after making a point about how detection worked for the ships. Mr Dalzelle left this book on a bit of a cliff hanger and the ending a little contrived. Still there is intrigue and political shenanigans going on but they take a back seat to the action. Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet books gets the extended time and vastness of space across better during the conflicts, but Dalzelle is improving as a writer.

Just finished The Drifters by James Michener. Wow those young people are so carefree, going this way and that on a whim, drugs, sex and rock and roll. Carrying on chasing the ghosts of those who came before them on the same dusty roads to enlightenment, or death. I stumbled across a web page for the James A. Michener Library at the University Of Northern Colorado -- that's just a few miles up the road from me. http://library.unco.edu/libraries/michener.htmhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_A._MichenerWC

About to start "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer A bank of clouds was assembling on the not-so-distant horizon, but journalist-mountaineer Jon Krakauer, standing on the summit of Mt. Everest, saw nothing that "suggested that a murderous storm was bearing down." He was wrong. The storm, which claimed five lives and left countless more--including Krakauer's--in guilt-ridden disarray, would also provide the impetus for Into Thin Air, Krakauer's epic account of the May 1996 disaster.http://www.amazon.com/Into-Thin-Air-Personal-Disaster/dp/0385494785Cheers, Slug

Started (now 1/4 of the way through) George R.R. Martin's 4th "Song of Ice and Fire" (Game of Thrones) book: "A Feast for Crows"
Liking it better than the others, probably because at least for now, the EVIL people are starting to get their comeuppance instead of just the Good People. I guess this started at the end of the 3rd Book.
I'm sure there will be enough painful deaths for GOOD characters before the tome is done.
Have not been following the HBO series, preferring to get through the books.
Long system spec sig follows:

Currently reading The Star of Africa: The Story of Hans Ma... the WWII Skies by Colin D. Heaton. Been wanting to read it for a while and it's on sale for Kindle for $2.99 right now.

"The Wind Beneath My Wings" by Susan Ottaway. It's about one of the most well-known Concorde pilots, John Hutchinson, and his life. Born and raised in India and England, his RAF career, and his time flying the Concorde for British Airways. Very interesting book so far! http://www.amazon.com/Wind-Beneath-My-Wi...+concorde+pilot
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
