Well, if some bean counters didn't had gotten cold feet.

Maybe if the feature-bloom would have been regulated instead of pulling the rug?

A fact is, that the software of that CFS is still in its infant-shoes and the possibilities,
embedded by a real visionist, surpass il2-1946 by far.
BoS/BoM is not even in the same league regarding long time fun.

Unfortunately bean counters are a sad reality of life

If a visionary makes a product that cost X million but a 'bean counter' realises it is not going to recover that X million are they wrong to cover themselves?

For that visionary project to have fulfilled its promises a price would have to have been paid by customers that no-one would have been prepared to pay.

We would all like the perfect 'Sim' but bean counters have seen there is not the customer base or budget to create it, sadly harsh economic realities are an obstacle to 'visionary products' however much we would like it to be otherwise

Cheers Dakpilot

CloD was developed for 8 years?

Bean counters ran the banks on Wall Street that collapsed in 2008. Don't hold them in too high esteem. They are just as fallible as visionary game designers and could have gotten cold feet and pulled the plug on CloD too early just as easily as if they were right to pull the plug. They occupy no rarified air and are guessing just as often as the next guy.

First time I've heard about "Storm of War" new engine development was in 2003, at the same time PF was developped by Ilya. in 2004, I got some mail exchange with Oleg about available data to build a Battle of Britain map.... and "Storm of War: Battle of Britain" was officially anounced in 2006, and CloD released in 2011.

So yes, it can be said CloD was developed for more or less 8 years (but in "part time" the first 2 years)

The original scheduled release for Storm of War:Battle of Britain was 2006 so it had to have been in development before that.

The Il-2 46 DVD had a feature on it talking about SoW: BoB, with in-game footage (which looked better than CloD did somehow...), and that was released in 2006.

I don't recall when I first started hearing about it, probably around the same time as Fighter Ops. Oh, did I actually use that name?? FO is the biggest joke in flight sims, hands down. Over a decade with nothing but a smattering of 3D models to show for it.

And yet you guys are all harsh on the company that actually delivers a working product on time.

An un air conditioned, rusty, paint faded, Ford Pinto works too. Does not make it fun to drive. And Ford selling it for the price of a Mustang doesn't mean that's it value. And Ford telling you to like it as is, does not make good marketing. Ford saying the customer is at fault for it not selling well and NOT the fact its a pos does not make it true.

But keep preaching.

So you guys would rather be strung along for nearly a decade waiting and hoping for the "perfect" sim instead of having a good one delivered now?
Besides I'm sure you guys directed plenty of hate mail at Maddox too. There's really no way to win with you people and they know that. A big part of the reason BoS was able to launch successfully is the developer maintained the scope of the project and didn't acquiesce to every little demand made on them by a small fraction of the players.

What's also funny about this topic. That forum activity is somehow relevant and represents the majority of the players views. Especially on this site.
All you have to do is scroll down all the topics and see that they're started by the same dozen or so people. Especially the negative ones. It's the opinions of a dozen people vs the tens of thousands that own the game. Rather hilarious.

Sharpe is mad that that some people don't like bos or the development team. He is also mad that he has not been able to make people see things his way after his almost 600 posts of doing nothing but trying.

I am also assuming that he is not happy that people find older Sims and abandoned Sims ressurected by mods better than the newer bos.

Ahh well. At least its entertaining to read.

Nobody said she isn't pretty!

But a bit like the pretty blonde, after spending fifteen minutes with her you begin to wonder if there isn't something a bit more interesting to do.

I refer to this.

Looks nice and shiny, but again, a pos that is not fun to drive.
