There is no gas cap on it.
I always thought you need a gas cap to keep pressure on the fuel pump.
You do know that as gas is pumped from the tank there would be less pressure in the tank if it was not vented to atmosphere.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

My car was in the shop this week for regular scheduled so many miles maintenance so a friend of mine let me used his car for the week.
A 2012 Ford Mustang.
There is no gas cap on it.
I always thought you need a gas cap to keep pressure on the fuel pump.
Also here in Texas every car is expected to go through a yearly State Inspection which includes emission testing where they take a hose with a gas cap at the end and put it on your vehicle to take the reading on pressure and also if any gas is escaping.
Plus the door to the gas cap on his car doesn't lock.
Anyone can open it and pour stuff down the fuel tank: water, sugar, whatever.
It makes no sense to me! Ford started doing that around 2010 I think.. I had a 2010 Flex that was like that.. The tank and filler are engineered to eliminate the need for a cap.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Unless it was a locking gas cap, anyone could do it regardless if it had a cap or not. Locking gas caps. They were the hottest selling item back when we had gas shortages. Anybody here remember sitting in line for 20 or 30 minutes and then just as you got to the pumps, they would hang a sign up, "SORRY, NO MORE GAS". Where I lived, you could only buy gas on odd or even numbered days, based on the last digit of your license plate. Ah, the good old day's. I remember gas lines. Believe it was 1971 or thereabouts. Where in upstate NY are you? I'm in Albany.

The sale of locking gas caps went through the roof..

Well, I hate to say it but if someone is a jerk enough to put that in your gas tank, they aren't going to be deterred by having to pry open the cover to get to the gas port. I had this same discussion with my brother when he wondered about my 15 Mustang not having a cap and having a push release to open the cover (no interior switches).
"For I know the plans that I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Matthew 5:11
Indeed we call blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, because “the Lord is compassionate and merciful. James 5:11

We lived in Germany through 1975 and I remember as a kid when Germany had car free Sundays. It was awesome as a kid to get on your bikes and hit the empty streets of Frankfurt.
