I've always loved the drum opening of Over the Hills by Gary Moore.

This is easily my favourite Metallica opening for any of their songs and any song in general. The whole lead in just gets more awesome as it builds..and builds. Brilliant.

I've NEVER NOT been in a good mood when I hear my favorite opening:
Boston Foreplay/Longtime

That's a great intro indeed. Another favorite of mine is the instrumental intro for "Fooling Yourself" by Styx.

They must have played this song over 1000 times, and never found
their way into it remotely the same way twice:

LOL...yeah! I just saw them on AXS TV playing at Red Rocks with Chicago.

And I think they're playing with Boston at an Indiana casino (Hoosier Park Casino) in July maybe.

*edit* scratch that, Boston is playing 7 August and REO's on 15 August. wink

I don't care what anybody says...I've always liked REO. It was as much part of my early partying days as was Foreigner, Styx, Journey, Kansas, and 38 Special. smile

How about

Also, I've hyped The Watchmen before, but I'll do it again, as this song has a cool opening.

And to add a bit of levity to the thread.

Love the backwards intro on Blackened too, great opening to the album. Also sounds great forwards smile

Metallica have some awesome openings to most of their songs actually.

Forwards...
