Yep, I still have a ton of my favorite Il2 1946 modded shots. Remember when you could put a Hurri on a Carrier Deck at night and create a mission just because you wanted to? Or put nose art on your plane even if it wasn't the correct nose art? You could have Homer flying a Mig15 in Hyperlobby having a ball and everyone else cracking up when they looked at the recording they made later on? And the Pacific Carrier ops, well "nuff said", simply awesome. How have we come so far backwards from those good old days of no team stacking, usable FMBs, Hyperlobby chat and just pure Flight SIm sanbox? I have to wonder sometimes if the best Flight Simming days are behind us besides better graphics. The immersion and content surely are not there anymore in most Sims. Anyway, on a positive note, thanks Trooper as I am sifting through all of my old IL2 pics and having fond memories. salute biggrin

Well, it's never left my hard drive, plus I fly it in preference to it's 'successor'
Apart from graphics, the old girl ticks all the boxes in the SP department.
I have IL2 CUP, HSFX7 and a vanilla install... still gives me hours of fun smile

Having said that, more nostalgia...

Man, I need to take the old girl up again!

And yeah, it does feel like it's been 2 steps forwards, 3 steps backwards recently.

To credit the current sims though, flight model fidelity has also received a healthy evolution over IL2. You could really wring out the original IL2 birds without much consequence. Not true in BoS or the DCS WWII war birds.

Great shots!
And that's just it... it's not just about FM and graphics. It's about believable missions and campaigns, endless scenarios, the ability to make credible in depth campaigns and missions yourself, without needing some kind of technical degree to just operate a mission editor.

The sad thing is, I'm beginning to believe we will never see these days again as developers have lost their way, they have lost the real focus on what most serious flight simmers want.
We want to loose ourselves in a world where we can believe we are part of something, we are involved in our little piece of the war, and that what we do is having an effect... we care about loosing wingmen, we are proud to receive historical accolades and medals, and most of all, we are having 'fun' while we do it!

Yes I must agree Sir, but in IL2 1946Cup you can have so many planes and so much going on, all in 60FPS quality. With the new AI in 4.12.2m it gets quite interesting even with it's FM limitations. BOS's FM are getting better, other than the landings, and I am flying it a little bit, but CLOD and DCS and ROF feel the best to me. Many say that CLOD feels as if you are on rails, but if you watch real in cockpit views of real WWII Birds it looks just like it feels in CLOD or DCS WWII birds. ROF is spot on if they would just get the Historic speeds correct and remodel the N28 completely, that would be the Flight Sim to end all WWI Flight Sims. Anyway, Trooper, more pics please. salute

Spot on Sir, we want our Historically Immersive user friendly sand box Flight Sims back!!!!

Yes, It is a Pilot Skin. I looked at Mission4 Today but I don't think they have them anymore. I have a bunch of comical ones., Elvis, Dr. Octopuss, Homer, Sith Lord to name a few. LOL I was in JOPS for a year and I would use Homer during the online missions and a few peeps would get mad at me when they reviewed their recordings, saying I was a cut up and not taking it all seriously enough. I agreed, but reminded them this was a game, not real life. LOL, some didn't like that so I moved along after a while. I had a lot of fun with JOPS though, mostly a great bunch of people. I have a little Homer Surprise in store that I may reveal over the next few days. Did you know that he flew in the Mission to Destroy the Tirpitz?

Edit: Nice Trooper, keep em' coming. I love the Desert Camos you have, Love that map.
