Not sure if this is related to what we were seeing a month back or so, this hasn't happened in a while but has suddenly popped back up in the last two weeks. The game will just freeze, well the sound will continue for a half minute or so and then stop, but the video will just freeze, requiring an ctrl-alt-del to get out followed by a hard close through the task manager. Info still gets dumped back into the WOFF shell system, so the mission is not a complete loss, but I still usually refly them anyway. Nothing unusual is happening when the lock up occurs, but it does almost always seem to be near the ground. I have managed to capture these error messages a couple of times:

I've already done a complete re-install and am not running any mods, other than backing up my pilot with Robert's utility (Thanks, Robert!)

Anyone see this before or have some ideas?

Thanks!

Turn off the DX9 shaders.....and you will not get a freeze. No need to re_install.

I installed new nvidia 352.86 driver and reinstalled WOFF (with all add-on and expansion packs) maybe just coincidence but since I've done it no freezes.

Thanks for the help guys! johnnydrake, I was using DX9 shaders for a long time with no problem, wonder why it would act up now? I'll make sure I have the latest drivers, mantras! salute

New drivers eh?
Just checked and yep, new ones are out. I have had zero WOFF problems for months (since I finally figured out the one and only issue I was having) but like to keep up on drivers.

Glad you got the issue solved Rick - hopefully.
I had a freeze once years ago using TC at low level but got no error messages so I had no "ray of hope" for you so I didn't contribute.

I don't think anyone really knows why WOFF freezes from time to time. I've had freezes, but I can't definitely say one thing fixed them and it seems like different things work for different people.

Yep, It can be anything from drive space issues, processor overheating, timing issues, graphic card issues, missing files or corrupted ones, etc, etc, or any combination of these and more. You just have to "try" to isolate.

One thing I've learned over the years is to have a relatively trouble free OS. Then anything you run on it will usually not give problems. So, it pays to make sure your OS is in tip top shape before you start looking for problems elsewhere.

There's nothing wrong with WOFF, there's often a whole lot of wrong with many 1000s of variables at play on a PC.

WOFF WILL stretch your PC sometimes, usually this means any faults or problems on your PC will be found out wink

Pol, do the error messages give you any clue as to what I should be looking into? Thanks!

I don't think those errors have to do with video drivers, but who knows? I have had erratic game freezes sometimes, but it was CFS3.exe stoppig, for whatever reasons ...impossible to trace back,I tried but to no avail. Yes I think Pol's answer says it all,Windows OSs have always been like that! Unstable stuff at best....
