Looks pretty cool, so many in development now. Who ends up being the "GoPro" like breakout in this class?

Looks very cool Jim! I'm looking very seriously at the latest DJI Phantom.

Jim,

When you have the opportunity to put your new toy through its paces, please come back here with feedback.

I'm in the market for a drone. Don't know which one yet. Still looking at the literature

So basically it's an autonoumus camera drone that does not require hand-flying or steering inputs?

I have wanted to get one but the legality is in question. Just last year one flew over our rc field during an event and he was arrested. Plus the matter of privacy, such as if your flying around taking video and someone sees you over their swimming pool you can be sued.

Tempting....but it's either 500 bucks pre-order or almost a 1000 bucks when it hits the market.

looks that way, you use some sort of tracking device on your person and it follows that.

I've not been through the details online, so it may be documented somewhere, but what stops it from flying into something? Say you're out cycling and using the lead mode, then pass under a bridge or something. What stops it from smashing itself into something it can't see?

^That's a question I've been asking myself. Overhead wires, trees... so many options for that thing to crash into.

Plus a whole bunch of battery packs required to last a full weekend off the beaten tracks.

I got a couple of smaller, cheap drones to learn with... looking for a good one myself for photography... we need to get them soon because I have a feeling in a few years laws will be pass restricting the purchase and use... just a feeling, as usual a couple end up screwing it up for the majority of drone users.

Make it look like a Hind and I'd go for it. As it is, nah.

That kind of feature set seems great for $500 thumbsup

Does this company have a track record of delivering on complicated gadgets like that? seems almost too good to be true, you'd think if they have a solid product that venture capitalists would be throwing money at them and they wouldn't have to do pre-orders to fund it (look at what happened to occulus rift).

What are the odds that drones will get banned from all parks and ski areas once they get more popular and start crashing into things even more so than they already do (Yellowstone park incident comes to mind).

Think of the amateur movie opportunities, these guys could do so much better with it!

I take a couple and put a couple of motion sensors and infrared activated SCAR-H and SCAR-L on them to patrol the perimeter of my home.

A plus with the Lily pre-order is you can get a full refund before it ships. So there's really nothing to lose if you pre-order now ($500) and find something that better suits your needs from now til February. Count me in on the pre-order. I like the simplicity of this drone.

That is the problem, Already spent 2k on the FDR-AX100/B Not about
to spend more to get 4k GoPro4 and then not have a Drone strong enough the heft my Sony.
This is a simple design to go places where few go and see what I see.

My 4K will be along this summer in the Bighorn Mountains of WY recording on the ground, can`t wait.

That Ugandan CGI is still better looking than what you see in most SyFy Channel movies.
