I thought I would share a few snaps I took today during a relatively quiet moment of my recurrent training.

This is the Global Express sim at CAE SimuFlite, Dallas.

And the view from the cockpit (very unusual to be able to actually see anything outside as the scenarios usually take place at night in IMC. This was taken before the fun began, on the ramp at Aspen. The graphics are pretty good, but by no means up to the standard of FSX or X-Plane with payware addons. The cockpit is pretty good though. wink

Checkride tomorrow afternoon, then I'm done for another 6 months. thumbsup

Not so much fun when your job depends on it. Being evaluated sucks the fun out fun things. And no sim is as fun as doing it for real.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

That pretty much sums it up OG. I'm always glad when the checkride is over. Having said that, the training is valuable and you get to do things that would be too dangerous to practice in the real airplane. Also, you can practice such things as low level windshear encounters and TCAS Resolution Advisories, that can't be practiced in the real world, even if you wanted to, because of their random nature. You need to know how to deal with them though. I still find it hard to believe sometimes that I get to do this stuff. pilot

I'm one of three engine run certifiers on the A-10C at my base and we do sim training for emergency procedures. No full motion, but the screen on our sim is a dome over an actual cockpit mock up (all switches and gauges are operational) and is pretty dang cool! One guy I was training had a hangover and opted NOT to do an after training sim flight because the simulated motion was enough for him...lol. Wish I could share pics...or take pics but it's all classified.

When I got some sim time at Oceana in the Hornet I had to leave my phone in the pilots car as did he. Yet you see video's of it, I don't get that...

It depends on the situation. If it's a dedicated PAO video, permission can be granted to bring a recording/electronic device into the secure space. Otherwise, they're not authorized. That's not to say that someone doesn't bring in their phone anyway. It's not like you get searched when entering or leaving a space.

This was always a major flaw in shows/movies like 24 or that really ridiculous show Homeland. Everyone is running around with personal cell phones and wireless landlines in a SCIF. It just doesn't happen like that.
