I don't agree with your assessment, but again, this is solely under SimHQs control. Just look at this very thread. It started as a discussion on nevada/EDGE, and once again, just like it does every time, it's been turned into this. Two points. 1) It takes two sides to tango 2) Can you point out where there was discussion over nevada/EDGE in this thread? Because by my count this we had effectively derailed this thread by the second post, fifth on the outside.

As for the "awkward silince was dcs2 is released comment", which set this off...
I agree there will be an echoing silence, as you can't talk when you bottom jaw is sitting on your desk, I will happily reach through my screen and help you pick up your jaws,
DCS2 is significantly more than a new GFX Engine, anyone expecting just a GFX engine will be hysterically surprised. I have no doubt about that, I don't bash the game or modules, ED though is another story and from what I have seen MOST if not all people in this forum feel the same way. Of course at this point, who knows when you will have to reach thru the screen as the date keeps being pushed back.

I agree there will be an echoing silence, as you can't talk when you bottom jaw is sitting on your desk, and the frustrations of many will finally be at ease, and we shall have peace... (In my Emperor Palpatine voice) I will happily reach through my screen and help you pick up your jaws, DCS2 is significantly more than a new GFX Engine, anyone expecting just a GFX engine will be hysterically surprised. DCS users be like: You know what will make my jaw drop after using Outerra since the first public release, if ED releases some tools for people to make their own maps/terrains but I ain't holding my breath.

The tools will likely be kept on a 3rd party qualification basis. If not, hurray, but I doubt it. As nothing has been said about freely distributing them, but has been mentioned several times that qualified 3rd parties will be granted access. Also, for the direction of the thread, I have a part in that nudge in this direction as I responded in haste to the "DCS is LockOn with Daisies" comment Daisies!

It takes two sides to tango Yeah, one side to post something critical of DCS, and another side to take it personally and turn the thread into a #%&*$#-show.

Yeah, one side to post something critical of DCS, and another side to take it personally and turn the thread into a #%&*$#-show. You don't see the irony of your position, do you? It never happens that someone posts something positive about DCS ... and another side to take it personally and turn the thread into a #%&*$#-show. That never happens.

I don't see much bashing of the GAME itself here, only the company.

The drama is largely why I avoid all flight sim forums now, including the ones here for IL-2, DCS, etc. I miss the days when people enjoyed what they had and when something new came out it was a fun little addition to an already fun game. Forums nowadays are neurotic and obsessive about every little thing a developer mentions and did or didn't do and why everyone should hate or love them, and every game is an absolute travesty where people are apparently deeply offended that it wasn't what they would have done given unlimited funds, time, and clairvoyance. I don't care. I just want to boot up DCS and fly with buddies when I feel like it, and visit forums when I want to discuss the fun that was had and how to work a troublesome switch. After 26 pages, the answer to the original question resides somewhere on the first few. Followed by 20 pages of arguments and debates over a terrain for a flight sim. I feel better. Time for lunch

Well now that this thread is winding down into its post-mortem phase with it's always endearingly snipey pillowtalk, I thought it might be a great time for a review -
As always I will be reviewing on a 5 star scale several familiar categories, as well as an off-the-cuff take on the proceedings. Shall we get right to it?
Length of time to derailment - 3 stars initially with an unusual first page derailment that allows us to get in to the action right away. Bonus half star though for a very nice discussion twenty pages in on when exactly the derailment occurred. A solid 3.5 stars
ED Moderator debate - The meat of the thread and a very good showing overall. Several "get off my lawn" posts and the always entertaining "right to be here" responses. Bonus half point for the moderator being involved specifically in this category and a few point for cartoons being involved - 3.75 stars
ED business practice and project management debate - Very weak here, didn't really touch on it for reasons I'll get to in my wrap up - One star
Moderator actions - 4 stars for minimal involvement, as longtime readers are aware I judge this category on a reverse scale, less moderator means more stars because no one likes that drama. No edits or recriminations is a solid - four stars
Ad Hominem attacks - Average. Really a staple of the flightsim community so extra effort here is needed to score - 2 stars
Old gripes from other forums - Incomplete here - may need to review recent events and update the final score
Thread Length with out resolving anything - 25 odd pages so far and two and half weeks - 3 stars
Pacing - an always subjective category, rather stilted overall again for reasons below - 2 stars
Overall not a bad effort but I did feel a bit shortchanged. Normally on a thread that asks for product updates there is a large section devoted to ED's process, business practices and work flow. That never really got off the ground. It seemed we got into the "ED Moderators posting here" debate a bit fast for the thread and that threw the pacing off, at least from this reviewers seat. I felt particularly cheated on the "why don't they have everyone working on one thing" argument, a personal favorite. All in all though a good effort from us though and its good to see everyones knives staying sharp for future threads. - Final score - 4 stars

exactly - we are not being silenced but rather being vocal - most of the posts here now are in response to an attempt by representatives of the developer to silence dissent, and in the case of a specific representative of the developer :Mr. "Sobek" to bait me. What attempt to silence dissent? Nate not going to point out the obvious.
