Hi all,

I've just tested the TF-51D and I was very positively surprised by its wonderful cockpit and the needed seriousness for flying it, it looks really like a sim and not only a game.

I would so gladly buy me the P-51D and also the F-86F, but will there be soon, or in a not too distant future, new interesting maps for thoses aircrafts ?

By "interesting", I'm saying maps allowing realistic scenarios, that means zero interest for me about a Nevada map (for what, bombing Las Vegas?) or an Ormuz map (not interested also in non historic scenarios).

Are some 3rd parties teams working on maps ?

Any infos welcome :-)

Red Flag or air racing would be 2 possible scenarios.

A Normandy map is being worked on but it is 3rd in line after NTTR and Straight of Hormuz theaters. No release date though.

Thanks for the infos.
Strange choices for new maps, a training map with no combat action possible and a fictional one !
So I'll wait, but the older I get, the less patient I am ;-)

The Straight of Hormuz certainly isn't fictional. I do get your point though. Leatherneck studios is also making an unnamed map.

No Normandy map is costing them sales(at least from me), that map should have had the out the door priority over the 109, spit, p-47 and other aircraft completion's. That Normandy map with the P-51 and the 190 would have been fine 4 me while the other aircraft are getting done in the oven...world is a bore with the 109, so I don't bother to fly it much while I wait for the map. And I haven't bought the 190 for the only reason being that of, the wrong map...so waiting popcorn

The Nevada map is actually of great interest to a lot of DCS users. It's not Las Vegas so much as the enormous Nellis Range, where one can re-create the massive Red Flag exercises, explore Area 51, etc. If they add Tonopah Test Range airfield, you could recreate the great "Red Eagles" missions from the 1980s. I'm really excited to fly in the Nevada map.

The map team and the people working on planes are not the same.

I know that, the map should have the priority even if it means a bigger payroll

Well we are getting OT here, but what to do with the aircraft people in the meantime? Lay them off? Why not have them earn their pay and at least some of the pay of the map team while they are chiseling away at the map stuff?

yes I agree they should earn their money in the mean time, and maybe the map is not that far off, hopefully

If I am not mistaken DCSW2 will have to be released as well before any new maps will get introduced. So add this to the wait also. frown

A Korea map = for me, instant buy of P-51, Sabre and Mig-15. And also all the other aircrafts involved there (dream: Seafire 46)

No realistic map = for me, no buy.
Not interested in touristic flying or fantasy scenarios.

Sometimes, I ask myself why aviation sim games studio don't want my money.

Examples:

War Thunder, great game engine but fantasy flying: no buy for me.
BOS: great looking game, but restrictions: no buy for me.
DCS: great FM's, great cockpits, great feeling of flight, but no maps for realistic scenarios: no buy for me.

And about the choices, here...

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=127100

... I see that a Seafire 17 is being developped. Very nice looking aircraft, but which saw no real war action. So an aircraft only for touristic flying or fantasy scenarios. No buy for me.

They could instead develop a Seafire 46, just imagine flying this beast over a Korea map:

Ok, here I go playing the fan-boy again. I know this may be of little interest to the WW2 crowd. But if we were to have had a war in the last 20 or so years the cauldron for it would have been the current map. The current map is basically where NATO (Turkey) meets Russia. Add in Georgia and now Ukraine and you see where things get interesting. I have always believed that ED gave this map to recreate conflicts that may have happened in the 80/90s. But the cold war is back! Will Georgia be subdued by the big neighbor, will they try to become part of NATO? These are NOT political statements. This is what is going on today.

I'm living in the middle east. I have always prided myself in my geography. However when I saw "Straights of Hormuz" I was like... Where is that?! I thought for a bit it was some fantasy scenario. Well, ignorance gave way to Google and I found out that the Straights of Hormuz are where Iran comes closest to CENTCOM. That is where Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and UAE comes closest to Iran. If war broke out between the ships now patrolling Yemen, the Straight of Hormuz would be a very busy area. You only need go to Google maps and see how close it is to American allies and bases mentioned above. So, give me a Tomcat or an Eagle and a Mig-21/23/25. Heck an Iran Air force F5E or F4 and here we got some potentially cool scenarios.

The NTTR was my least favorite choice until I realized how good it will be to have a non Russian map. Nothing against Russia, its just everything is in.... well Russian. We will have a English map with towns I can pronounce. The desert will be MY middle East until SoH is out. What really peaked my interest was the awesome town and size of the map. These are the training wheels I need to get my navigation down pat.

ED has the best flight sim out there. Some of the choices of development I believe are fueled by what is ready now.. What can be done and what is not snagged in developmental problems. No, I don't like having the same map for years and years and years. NTTR would not have been my first choice and I believe a WW2 map would be easy to develop for us who have the WW2 birds. But, don't think that The Black Sea and Straights of Hormuz have no value, they most certainly do. I doubt I will ever see a Korea or Vietnam Map. A Sinai Map will probably never be done either. But for now, I look forward to what is coming down the pipe.

ED has specified that there is no point in releasing a map for DCSW 1 only to have to develop it again for DCSW 2/EDGE. While the DCSW 2 release is well behind schedule, ED has been putting their eggs in this basket for a while now. I'm optimistic that we will start to see maps once DCSW 2 is released and the SDK is out there for the 3rd party developers.

Now if only we could get a release timeframe for DCSW 2... biggrin

The map people make the maps, the planes people make the planes, they have their own work to do,

But does that mean the people that build the villages are Village People?...
