Man that has about as much of the soul of car racing as Col Sanders singing Dock of the bay being soul music. Push button world....

How could something so fast be so boring? To each their own I guess.

In Vancouver, there was a slot car track place at a storefront on the main storefront shop street (West Broadway) in the early and mid sixties, which had two track layouts quite similar to that one. It was a mecca for 11 to 15 year old boys; the cars of course were nowhere near as fast, and looked much more like detailed miniatures, mostly of 24-hour racers. By about 1970 the tracks were gone, and the store settled into a long run as a general hobby store, though it retained for decades its illuminated sign with the original name "Broadway Raceways", which eventually permuted to "Raceway Hobbies". I can still remember going in there to watch the kids racing, the smell of ozone from the copper mesh contacts sparking on steel rails, and whining of little electric motors.

That's ridiculous...but if they are happy with that, have fun !

I had the HO sized sets as a boy, and even those were so fast they lacked any "road feel" for me.
Bigger, heavier, slower 1/32 and 1/24 cars seemed to show a better mix of straight speed, and cornering risk/reward... And getting to see it happen. But I never did own a large scale set like that.

I liked my slotless track when I was a kid. Slower, but more fun and you could change lanes.

Crappy slot racing track I bought for my son did not last long. And yes, it was boring to. Always flying off the track going to fast.
These guys take it beyond serious. Rebuilding the car between races.

Ridicule??? Nah, just not my cup of tea. driving fast cars LOL push button, wait for car to melt or fly off track doesn't seem much like driving to me. But, again, to each his own. The "art" here is in the electronics and propulsion/aerodynamics I guess. Now if it was large scale r/c Tanks with some serious weaponry (think tiny caliber rifles with sabot rounds), smoke, optical video sights etc, inside a high walled battle arena, yep, I'd be in Geek heaven. Cars so fast I can't see them?...nah.

I had one of those "different" style ones back in the day, where you could race two cars on the same track due to wiring differences, and they could spin out and change direction while switching lanes. It let you have cars chase/try to escape each other instead of just run to the finish line.
Still, my interest lasted only a few years, same as with the model trains. In the end, it's a fixed finite location that you can only get so much out of.
