BOS Screenshot Contest Spring 2015

BoS is a very pretty game indeed.

Here is my screeshot: the current Steam chart numbers for Cliffs of Dover, Battle of Stalingrad, and IL-2 1946. If BoS continues on this trend it will slip below current interest in IL-2 1946 no matter how pretty they make BoS. 1CGS has just started a screenshot contest. But the people shown in the graph below that have stopped playing BoS already know how pretty it is. And this downward trend has endured through the hundreds of new additions, features and bug fixes that have come in just the last three regular patches. Seems like 1CGS is focusing its energy on the wrong things first.

I'm guessing the casual gamers on Steam want a real campaign also (it is one of the primary differences between BoS and the other two games). Whatever the reason, 1CGS seems more concerned about generating pretty screenshots to sell more copies than fixing the game so the line below for BoS trends up instead of down. The marketing for BoS appears as shallow as the gameplay.

Why?

You should be feeling sorry for 1CGS instead. BoS is floundering on Steam and they seem clueless as to why even though a 1st year marketing major could probably figure it out.

And always remember, if 1CGS came out with the ability for the community to create traditional campaigns I would be among the first to celebrate. Many of us who are vocal about dissatisfaction with BoS are some of its biggest proponents in concept.

But I'm not in the help Jason and Loft sell it "as is" crowd. There are only two methods I can see helping BoS sales "as is" and that would be to try to lower customer expectations: "get happy - this is as good as it gets" or hide the fact it has a very poor single player experience (see Steam chart for evidence of that). I've seen both methods from BoS proponents. "You'd better eat the soggy potato chips because there is nothing else" and "don't tell them the potato chips are soggy" are both sad marketing positions indeed.

Prangster, BoS is floundering on Steam among existing customers which means by definition word of mouth advertising is terrible. Word of mouth advertising is always the most powerful form of advertising. In the end, if Betty likes her coffee maker she tells 10 others, or if Joe likes his power drill he tells 10 others. It is exponential but also works in reverse for poor products. What would be your advice on how to reverse the trend of terrible word of mouth advertising for BoS? Silencing complaints is a non-answer in the free world. And all those Steam customers who have stopped playing BoS are telling their friends why, that is as certain as gravity.

Helping Jason and Loft try to squeeze out a few more sales is counterproductive and won't help that Steam chart at all. If we want a true successor to the IL-2 games that came before BoS then 1CGS has got to fix the reason for the trend shown on the Steam chart above.

Bucksnort is spot on.
Me myself has gone a different path and no longer consider BoS an IL2 product but mentally renamed it to RoF1943 and as such left it all behind me making my expectations on this title zero and nil.

As activity here has declined I'm pretty much sure more people has done the same and only read this section for the entertainment value of all arguments (for my part mostly the defenders hilarious statements and awkward "al'righty then" flashes).

To me, IL2 ended with Cliffs Of Dover (which thanks to TF got its name back from Ben Dover as left by Ilja)

Nice Pictures JagdNeun but I Think that first one might not make too well in the Contest.
(I assume your post was not an offtopic "don't look there, look HERE!" post by instruction but rather your entries in the Contest, right?)

Ah well, the BoS Screenshot idea for publicity and sales....no idea where they got that possibility from? Oh....hang on.....two-years ago I offered this idea.

I posted this on the 16th of July 2013 about using screenshots as free publicity.

Edited from the post linked below:

Just imagine the prints hanging around homes and offices, all free advertising for BoS/777/1C and all because they are forward thinking enough to add 'simple' features to allow players to create beautiful images to display?

So Photo-mode.....what do you think? Poster Render Mode...what do you think?

Benefits of all of the above:

Films = Publicity = Sales wink

Photos/Posters = Publicity = Sales smile

Cheers, MP

Was just showing the missions pak that I've been playing in that first shot. I wanted to show the briefing and some of the historical missions that are available now. Not really entering anything. Just took a few snapshots from the mission.

Yes, and obviously Jason & co. were just too dumb to come up with the idea on their own and are now withholding credit from you. Come on, you're just being petty - it's not as if the idea of a screenshot contest is something new.

So it's surprising they waited so long to do it then!

(and I understand why they wouldn't credit me wink )
