The air war is still young in early 1917, and the fighter units are still learning and developing their tactics. The "DiD Campaign", which is flown on the same date we have today, but in the year 1917, could do with some more flyers. Why not join in?
If you want to fly really seriously, the "DiD Campaign" might be your cuppa. It is not about flashing action and piling kills - it is about survival, about realism - it is a campaign that tries to honour those men, who only had one attempt to make it - or not. They could not enlist a new pilot and try again. That's why it is called "DiD" - "Dead is Dead".
If you think you are the right man for that, please read closely the first post in the thread "DiD Campaign..." - and if you then still have questions, we will answer them. You shall be welcome!

You shall be welcome! +1 It's very addictive and fulfilling! It's a great opportunity to building a pilot diary for the long term and reflect back on all the missions and what happened. You get very attached to your flight mates and feel the joy and sadness as they achieve or fall.

Banjo, I always wonder, why we don't see Americans flying American campaigns. You could fly with Captain Eddie; first in a Nieuport, later in SPADs. But, whatever you picked is alright for me - welcome to the grinder!

Banjo, there should be the "Escadrille Lafayette" - the American pilots flew there, before they got their own US units. We had agreed, that Americans could transfer from there to a US squadron. If that should technically not be possible in WOFF (never tried it out), then you's have to note all the pilot's final scores in the "Lafaette" unit, start a new feller of the same name with the new US unit, and now add the old records to the new scores for the chart. A bit more work, but when you save the old data, it should be managable.

But, whatever you picked is alright for me - welcome to the grinder! I would very much like to fly with the Americans and.Captain Eddie. The problem is that, in WOFF kind of like real life, the USAS is sort of like a French Little brother with aircraft, location, structure, etc and suffer the same game problems (aircraft types as in two-seaters) as the late war French careers. Now there is a squadron or two that flies Camels with the Brits (17 and 146 by memory?) that I have never checked out in game - probably because I just thought of them as I was typing this!

Jeckel, that is rather a post for the "DiD Campaign Revival" thread - this thread is meant to be an invitation for new flyers, who never dared to try the "DiD Campaign". Just post it again in the right thread, and maybe some two-seater men can answer it.

The problem is that, in WOFF kind of like real life, the USAS is sort of like a French Little brother with aircraft, location, structure, etc and suffer the same game problems (aircraft types as in two-seaters) as the late war French careers. +1, I stopped my SPA 15 career in late June 1918, after that, most of Strutters are gone, and we have nothing to replace them. It is probably not as dull as flying the opposing side at the same moment (where you will only fight SPADs), but still, I can be patient, and I will wait until...;) Now there is a squadron or two that flies Camels with the Brits (17 and 146 by memory?) 17 and 148, flying in Flanders and Picardy. And as for flying as an American in 1917, PWCG in ROF, had a nice option. When you joined a British or French Squadron, you could tickle "American" and in late 1917 early 1918 you were transfered to an American unit.

Okay, I have checked it again and found, that you can only manually enlist in the "Esc. Lafayette", which is under French units. (Lou, I think, knew other units, which had had American pilots) Escadrille Fafayette It might be a good idea, if the devs would allow the "Escadrille Lafayette" also to be chosen, when you enlist as an American. No idea of course, if that would be possible without tilting the campaign manager. So all who want to fly as Americans, could only start with the Esc. Lafayette, and later start a new pilot with the same name in an American unit. You would have to collect all data from your "French" pilot (or you just keep him, so you could always check again), and then add the records to the new carreer data. A bit uncomfortable, but I see no better way.
