I could stand next to Tom Hanks and not believe its him. I'd assume he's a look alike and ignore. Who else looks like Steve? Nobody. Plus he was wearing a rather expensive looking leather aviator jacket and we were both headed to LAX.

Back when Babylon 5 was in its heyday, I saw Jerry Doyle at a bar in Coronado. I didn't want to bug him, but I eventually went up to him and just said I really liked the show, and asked when the next season was starting (it seemed to vary due to production and renewal issues). He thanked me for liking the show and told me when it would start, and that was it.
Another celebrity encounter I had was with Marc Singer, of "V" and "Beastmaster" fame. Some friends of mine and I were walking to ComiCon one year and waiting at an intersection. A car pulled up and stopped, but a trolley was coming and the barrier arm was coming down, and it was going to hit the car. We all yelled and screamed at the car to move back, and it got out of the way just in time. Out popped Marc, thanking us for warning him. We all acted just like we would with anyone else, and after he got back in his car, we all said, "Hey, wasn't that Marc Singer?" I feel kind of bad now, wondering if he thought he wasn't recognized.

When I worked at a movie theater in South Miami during college I met a few celebs who lived locally. Sometimes I recognized them when I saw them, like Daisy Fuentes (who was taller than I expected--taller than me in her heels!), sometimes I realized it later. That happened when I served popcorn and drinks to Gloria Estefan and her family. Totally didn't realize it until the other guys started making "what do you think of our bathrooms, Gloria?" jokes 10 minutes later, then I remembered her voice was damned familiar! Didn't care about Jon Secada. Madonna was just...dressed weird and in the company of a few weirdos. Went to see Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The Jedi Master

You were wearing Daisy Fuentes' heels? She must have big feet!

My girlfriend and I attend the "Chiller Theater Expo" twice a year in Parsippany NJ. http://www.chillertheatre.com/main.htmWe have literally met hundreds of celebrities over the years. William Forsythe, one of the nicest people you could meet. Joe Pantoliano, Mirina Sirtis, Levar Burton, Connor Trineer, Jeffery Combs, Ernest Borgnine, Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz, Dean Cain, also very nice, Kim Coates, Olivia D'Abo, John Billingsley, Larry Wilcox, Tommy Flanagan, Walter Koenig, David Faustino, Frank Vincent, to name only a very few.

To be honest, I wouldn't know what to say to some actor anyway, even if I like and respect his work. That they are good and liked, they have heard already from people more qualified than I am. I mean, sure, you could make contact and say "Hi, we know each other from cinema. Remember last week? I was sitting in row five, seat 16." That's probably absurd enough to at least be mildly amusing. I find most celebrities love talking about themselves. I like to get technical and ask about behind the scenes stuff. William Forsythe told me he had about 60 days to prepare for his role of Jake Lamotta, so he had a ring built in his backyard and hired a professional boxer to train with. Kent McCord (officer Jim Reed from Adam-12) and I had some things in common. I'm a former Police Officer and he was a reserve Police officer in Los Angeles, recently retired with the rank of Lieutenant. He also told me how he almost got fired from the series due to a TV Guide article where he said, growing up he didn't like cops. After seeing the article, the studio wanted him fired. Jack Webb who was the producer wouldn't let him be fired.

To be honest, I wouldn't know what to say to some actor anyway, even if I like and respect his work. I find most celebrities love talking about themselves. ...just like most people do. Still, there isn't much of an overlap to which both sides could relate, aside from trivialities. And why would I force a trivial conversation on some unsuspecting stranger that I've never met before, just because a million other people would recognize his face. It's not like we're best buddies that just happened to not having met before. Then again, I don't read the yellow press so maybe I'm just not the target audience for this kind of encounters.

Little known tidbit about Buscemi:
He was a New York City Firefighter before becoming a star. In the aftermath of 911, he returned to the firehouse he was with to help his firefighter brothers and sisters look for survivors. He insisted that not a word be mentioned of it to the press.
Steve Buscemi is a good man.
