Hi,

1/ Is it posible to ave a mod with only, let's say, the 20 #1 aces for every nation (à la Red Baron) ?

2/ when using these mods, do they make the HA vulnerable as ordinary AIs or do they delete them simply from the squadron roster (with their indinvidual skin) if not on the new HA list anymore?

1) You can have as many aces per nation as you would like. From 0 to the stock max.
2) With whatever HA's you leave in the game they behave just like the stock HA's. They can be shot down but never die or get captured.
2 1/2) If the HA is not in the game (due to his removal from the aces list) his skin goes unused. Your squadron strength, in a new campaign, is normal (stock level) as the places of the missing HA's are filled with AI non-HA Pilots with a skill level comensurate with the squadrons skill or experience level.

Or you can take the stock files, changed the number up top to "01" and that should work also.

Also, there's a way to do it yourself.

Open the Aces files

Change the top most number to 20 (i.e. 934 -> 20)

Delete all records below the 21st one and add an EOF at the end of the last record.

So, the end result is that you'll have 20 as the top most number and EOF as the last part of the file.

As long as the number up top is changed the deletion of unused aces is optional is it not?
Just like to be clear for future endeavors.

Actually, I don't remember if I tested it while leaving the aces. So, I'm not sure if it will or won't work.

Just did a quick check.
SOG's "Aces 01" is the stock files with just the number up top changed.
I like the deletion though. Just an OCD thing.

EDIT: Sorry kaa I forgot. SOGriffin is now Banjoman in this forum for your check.

Hey Kaa, Duke and Oldhat are both right. My Aces 1 mod just changes the total number of HAs to one per nation and my Aces 0 reduces that to 0 for each nation. When deciding which aces to use the game only cares about that first field so if you use my Aces 1 mod then the game will only populate the first ace in the file so you don't really need to delete the others. If you are OCD like Duke you can and it won't hurt anything. As far as your other questions go, my mods don't change any of the games behavior as far as HAs are concerned, they are still invincible. These mods were developed for those of us that don't particularly care for how the HAs are handled. If you have other questions, please feel free to ask I'm more than happy to answer the best I can.

Oh very kind from you all and no I am not suffering from ocd but on the contrary from a mix of lazyness and procastination, that's why I am asking you this help biggrin I am doing it now, personalizing each aces file as I wish keeping only the most famous per nation !!!

The OCD thing was me kaa and not you.
And good luck! It's a pretty simple procedure but can be tricky if you try to get fancy.
If you have any problems, or need files, just advise. I have some minor skill but OldHat and Banjoman are the pros.

Yep, you can either do that manually or you can use either my Aces 1 mod or my Aces 0 mod. I created both mods so people wouldn't have to do the manual part, but the effect is the same. I hope you enjoy them, I've been using it for quite a while and it does create a different game. I feel like I care more for my flightmates because each one can now die.

I would gladly, as I use already the 100 aces redux mod ...but as I'd like to still have the top scorers flying around , I mean , the 20 top aces for each nation.

Thank you for the handy mod, very useful!

Quick question: how difficult would it be to do a mod that removes HA's from the player squadron only? I gather the game treats the player squadron and other squadrons the same, so it'd have to be done by hand for any individual squadron...

I actually really like the HA feature combined with the wonderful skin pack, but dislike it for the "immortals" in my own squadron, which sort of hurts immersion when I see a squadmate go down in flames, only to be alive and well next mission. I might end up borrowing your insights so that I delete aces from my own squadrons before each new campaign!
