Yes thanks for that, very useful!

I could just do with a handy guide on how to position my masts/sails in various wind conditions. I end up floundering around "in chains" more often than I would care to mention!

The easiest way is to watch a couple of youtube vids. Ramjb has posted a pretty good one explaining manually handling the sails. I use manual sails for all major course changes and, of course, for tacking.

You will asbolutely need to use manual sails in anything (square-rigged) with 2+ masts.

Ah, found it:

Thanks Para, will take a look!

I really dont want to sound too gushing about this game, but damn I can not get over how good it is. Yesterday I was playing a PVP battle that had 10 or so ships. It was an incredible feeling to acually be taking part in it seeing all the other ships jockying for posistion.

I really felt a part of a fleet as we began manoeuvring, someone called out about forming line and I did my best to line up behind a Victory. We then went into action with canon shots leaping out toward the enemy and of course slightly shuddering as a few ranging shots found home to be swiftly followed by a full broadside smashing into my ships sides... and this is only an Alpha!!!

WOW!

Its a nice multi player game so far. I have a lower end system ( Vid card 5770 AMD + quad Core) I run the game smoothly on low graphics. Medium is good until U hit bad weather with a large battle High Seas then I get Jaggies.

Speaking of Wild weather, During the large battles and high seas, The little boats ( Cutters and Lynx) seem to be flying fish and submarines then actual sailing ships. Outside of that, The game work so far is nice and the art is just great. Good fun and everyone should come on board. Just my 2 cents.

Just recently started following this. I played a ton of the venerable Avalon Hill's Wooden Ships and Iron Men table-top game when I was younger so this looks superb. Will likely purchase on Steam at release (would do the pre-order but have been tainted by both the CloD & BoS fiascos). Some fantastic screen captures. smile

Glad to hear someone else was an Avalon Hill WSIM player. My problem was sitting at a table for so long or leaving the setup and forgetting what I was trying to do.

Nice! I usually didn't last all that long before heading to Davey Jones Locker. The dice hated me lol. Big fleet action usually was at least a two evening battle with me coming back to the table wondering what the heck had I been doing the evening before (that got worse playing the Red Barricades campaign in ASL...) ahoy

New patch with a couple of new ships!

The Privateer is a very nice, nimble ship. And the Navy brig packs some serious firepower. Can't wait to try out the Cerberus frigate.

yep

Yea, and, since I just got my main computer up and running again a couple of days ago, I was planning to pre-order it this weekened.

Oh well. Will have to wait for the release, I guess.

I'm sold. Can't wait to give this one a try.

"I have only two men out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold."

If you are proactive and state your case well they will let you in still, there is a thread on their forums about it.
