I'm in the process of building a simpit that will also house the computer. I want to move the power and reset switches from the computer case to the "instrument panel" on the simpit.

They are attached to the computer case in a way that I'm concerned I'll destroy the wires or the switches themselves if I make any more attempts to detach them from the computer case. So, couldn't I just buy some new switches that I could mount on the "instrument panel" and then just plug into the motherboad?

For my arcade cabinet I used a momentary DPDT switch one way was power the opposite was reset.

EDIT: This method should work fine. I think it needs to be momentary switch though. And if you need more wire its easy to crimp/wire screw or solder some more on.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

It looks to me as though you should be able to remove those switches fairly easily. Aren't they just held in position by the black plastic tabs? Some small slotted screw drivers worked in with just a bit of care should do the trick.

That said, the switches aren't very aesthetic and you might want some that look better for your 'pit.

EDIT: and the switches should be momentary (so the ones you posted likely won't work).

Thank you for the suggestions!

I did some internet searching and found the switches I wanted and they are also very affordable ($1.95 for each switch and $1.95 for each cover)! Found the momentary toggle switch and a carbon fibre looking missile switch cover at the links below:

I REALLY like that site after doing some exploring on it, lots of stuff on there to learn about basic electronics, going to be very useful for the future!

You can't use the cover with this type of the switch. It is an on-off-on switch. The cover will push the switch in the first on position all the time.

Computer case use momentarily press switch's for power on and reset - no toggle switch's.

Only the big red one in the pictures above is suitable.

This one is momentarily and have the "military fighter look":

This switch send a momentary signal when toggled from OFF to ON and vice-versa.
